Peaceful Protests

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The support for Che is noted. I am grateful the protests were basically peaceful.

Thousands attend Missoula 'No Kings' protest at Caras Park

... Protest organizers estimated 9,000 people marched from the XXXXs at the north end of Higgins Avenue to Caras Park, where some 15,000 people listened to several speakers critical of the federal government, according to protest organizer Danica Nelson.

Image
HISTORY IS SCREAMING!
ARE YOU LISTENING YET?

... "It's on us, we the people, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country," Nelson said. "If (Trump) believes we will roll over while he takes our freedom, he is mistaken. We are coming together again because we know we can overcome this repression when we unite."

... This round saw 28 events in cities and towns across Montana on Saturday, ranging from large population centers like Missoula to Choteau and Plentywood, according to the No Kings website. More than 3,300 rallies were planned nationwide.

Image
EGGS ARE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE ALL OF THE CHICKENS ARE IN CONGRESS!!!

Val Risano, 59, a Bitterroot Valley resident who traveled to Missoula for the protest, said she was sharply critical of the Trump administration for pushing for more executive power in the government.

"We have a complete and total narcissist as president," Risano said while walking toward Caras Park. "He has absolutely no understanding of the world of politics anything than other than making his life more enriched with money. He has no idea of what people need."

Missoula residents Nick Bruno, 25, and Caroline McClung, 24, both sported American flag signs with lettering calling to "tax the rich" and to remove "Nazis" from powerful positions in the federal government.

... Greg Ritter, 74, carried an American flag turned upside down during the march. He told the Missoulian a main reason he attended was to protest the ongoing conflict in Iran, which first started one month ago.

Jeannine Flatem, 71, walked to the park with Ritter carrying a board calling the conflict "illegal." She told the Missoulian her father served in World War II. Flatem said Congress must authorize the conflict before it continues.

"(Trump's) not even doing it when he has Congress and the Senate in his pocket, that is beyond belief," Flatem said, citing the Republican control of the legislative branch. "My dad didn't go and fight for that." ...

That's a well-made banner. 3 people are holding it, but it looks like maybe one could. And, the pole is skinny enough to escape police disapproval.

'No Kings' announces major nationwide protests for President Trump’s 80th birthday
The “No Kings” movement will host nationwide protests on June 14th, President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday, where he will also hold an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at the White House

Image
No Kings’ massive event will center on a concert at New York’s Town Hall, featuring A-listers such as actress Bette Midler, songwriter Patti Smith, actor Jane Fonda, and commentator Joy Reid

Image
Among the sponsors of the 90-minute concert is the Committee for the First Amendment, a Hollywood-based group that Fonda started last year

Not demos this time.
The Next 250 Starts With Us.
As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we have a choice about what story we tell.

We can let strongman politics and corruption define the moment. Or we can make the story of America about people coming together — across race, background, identity, belief, and community — to defend our rights and build a future rooted in people power.
On June 14, we rise up, we sing out, and we keep organizing.

June 14: Rise Up, Sing Out
A Concert for the First Amendment. An Evening to Build Community.

While the Committee for the First Amendment leads and hosts this powerful concert, Indivisible and No Kings are proud to partner with them to build the durable, hyper-local infrastructure our movement needs to win and counter the president's spectacle. On June 14, the national concert event celebrates the freedoms that belong to all of us: speech, assembly, protest, religion, press, and expression.

Across the country, communities will gather for local watch parties to sing along, make art, share food, connect with neighbors, and take meaningful action together.
Join a Rise Up, Sing Out event near you — or host one in your community.

The Work Continues
America has a long history, rooted in white supremacy, of suppressing the rights of people of color. But our history also clearly shows that people-powered movements are how we end authoritarianism.

Throughout 2026, in the face of unprecedented attacks, millions of us joined together in our communities and held the largest single day of morally grounded, nonviolent direct actions by any movement in US history. Each time we show up, we disrupt President Trump’s attempts to rule through repression and remind the country, and the world, that people power is our path to a truly free America.

Authoritarians want fear, silence, and isolation. We choose joy. We choose community. We choose people power.
Rise Up, Sing Out is about reclaiming patriotism as something inclusive, participatory, and rooted in care for one another — not power, pageantry, or one person’s spotlight.

On June 14, the Committee for the First Amendment will be hosting Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment, an uplifting evening of song, solidarity, and action. Featuring an all-star line-up of performers, this 90-minute concert event will celebrate the freedoms guaranteed by our First Amendment—of speech, religion, press, assembly, and protest—and the people power that both fuels these rights and is essential to guarantee them.

Even as authoritarians increase their attacks on our freedoms and communities, we see examples across the country of people rising up together, taking action, and turning back those forces.

The event will be streamed with watch parties all across the country—so wherever you are, you can sing along, find inspiration in the performances, build community, and take meaningful action together.

Trump protesters can keep flying ‘86-47’ flag on National Mall, judge rules
A federal judge ruled to temporarily uphold an anti-Trump organization's First Amendment rights

‘86 47’ graffiti appears on Lincoln Memorial Pool following Trump DOJ charges

... A Park Police spokesperson said. "Around 7:20 a.m. this morning, the U.S. Park Police was notified by the National Park Service of approximately 15-by-30-foot ‘8647’ graffiti spray-painted in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool....
That's big, would have taken some planning, stealth and time.

Enraged Republicans

GOP anger at the term comes after former FBI director James Comey shared an image on social media in May 2025 that showed seashells laid out to spell "8647." Comey, 65, affably dubbed the photo "Cool shell formation on my beach walk."

The post, which Comey deleted, enraged Donald Trump Jr., the president's son. "Just James Comey casually calling for my dad to be murdered," he wrote in his own response to the picture.

"This is who the Dem-Media worships. Demented!!!!" he added. Despite there being no direct threat voiced their own disgust with Comey.
 :crybaby:
Subsequently, Comey offered clarification on his earlier controversial post.

"I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message," he admitted. Comey expressed surprise at the hostile interpretation.

"I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence," and emphasized his rejection of any such aggression. "It never occurred to me, but I oppose violence of any kind, so I took the post down." ...
The Mirror forgot to include the rest of the story that was suggested in its headline. Wiki:
Seashell indictment

On April 28, 2026, Comey was indicted again on two counts, knowingly and willfully making a threat to take the life of and to inflict bodily harm on the President of the United States, and knowingly and willfully transmitting in interstate commerce a threat to kill the President of the United States.... the Merriam-Webster dictionary has described the most common meaning of 86 with regards to roots in the service industry is actually to "throw out" or "refuse service to". At the time, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that federal agencies are investigating the post as a threat....

Apparently a news worthy non-event. I was in the camp it was not an appropriate venue for a UFC spectacle.
