Happy Turtle Day, Sen. Mitch 'Turtle' McConnell!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

There is obviously a "rest of the story" with Mitch. He is playing the typical senate game of being kept standing until election time when the opposition party is governor of the state.

:bs: This is just a staff ploy to maintain his agenda in lieu of a replacement being appointed by Governor Andy Beshear (D).
You would think, but in Kentucky the governor doesn't appoint for a senate seat, it has to be a special election. Don't know if they could pull that off before November.

Seems like that could work both ways for senate voting purposes.

What does it matter? The Senate and House stay GQP even if Massie or a Dem wins a special election.

It still makes the hurdle a little higher and slaps DonOld in the face.

I keep wondering whether Mitch regrets not lowering the boom on trump's ass ten years ago. I bet he does.

Hmmm, it might actually lower the bar if he's not there to vote against the SAVE Act in a reconciliation process. But it still ain't gonna happen, sounds like a SPINO pipe dream.

Weirder and weirder.

The entirety of the republican party is silent.

When they announce he's gone, the platitudes will be coming out of the woodwork.

What if they just keep him plugged in until his term ends in Jan 2027.

The United States is so broken that we quite literally have a brain dead senator only kept alive by life support still "serving" his term.

August 3 is the magic day for no special election.

What diff if they kept him plugged in until January?

You are probably correct. Basically, the senate is shut down until election day. Have the candidates for senate in KY selected yet? I have heard little about it.

Maybe they'll wheel him out onto the senate floor and use an interpreter to decode his body twitches into votes. It wouldn't suprise me at this point.

At this point they may be better off without him being able to vote but still in the seat, he didn't vote for SAVE and would unlikely vote for a reconciliation bill with SAVE attached (which isn't gonna happen), it would actually lower the threshold for passage.

I talked to Mitch McConnell for about 20 minutes today. TOld him about how I had ribeye steak and salad and beer at dinner last night. He asked me if I'd seen his wife.
