The only option to "end" the war without concessions to Iran is having US soldiers invade. That's not going to happen (we hope), so sounds like this conflict is just going to go on indefinitely until the US accepts that Iran now controls the strait of Hormuz.

So I expect Russia will be desperately trying to escalate pain as will Ukraine since both are out of air defense. So it will be a massive escalation to try to reach the “uncle” pain threshhold first. Give Ukraine air defense now

To suppress high oil prices during the war, the US released oil from its emergency stockpile. The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve held 319.5 million barrels as of July 3. The last time the inventory was that low was in 1983, when the reserve was still being filled.

Scott Jennings and former Trump campaign aide Caroline Sunshine swapped insults on CNN over whether the U.S. has been "at war" with Iran for 47 years.

Two of President Donald Trump’s most well-established supporters swapped barbs this week during an on-air discussion of the administration’s ongoing conflict with Iran.

The spat between conservative commentator Scott Jennings and Caroline Sunshine, the former communications director for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, took place on CNN’s “NewsNight with Abby Phillip” Thursday.

As guests debated whether Congress would impose “guardrails” on Trump’s military actions in Iran, particularly if Democrats claim the majority in the House or Senate this fall, Jennings pushed back, suggesting Iran and the U.S. had been military adversaries since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

“Guardrails for what? To go back to a world where we’re all rainbows and unicorns with the Iranians?” he said. “They’ve been at war with us for 47 years!”

Jennings’ comments quickly drew an exasperated response from Sunshine, who said, “I’m sorry, the first time I’ve heard about the 47-year Iran war was, like, this year.”

“I’m sorry you don’t read much,” Jennings sniped. “Did you just start following the news this year?”

Typical MAGAts, they both got it wrong. Low grade conflict for sure, but it began 72 years ago when the US canceled Iranian democracy.

From there, the exchange became even more fiery as Jennings and Sunshine began speaking over one another.

“It’s insulting to actual conflicts that we’ve been in to say that we’ve been at war [for 47 years] ... how many Americans have they killed on U.S. soil in the 47 years?” Sunshine asked.

“They’ve killed thousands of Americans — they have maimed American soldiers,” Jennings replied. “They’ve attacked American allies.”

“Yeah, which is all wrong. But why have our soldiers been over there?” Sunshine asked.

Jennings ignored her.

Isn't this technically piracy? The strait isn't within United States territorial waters, but we're extorting "tolls" from ships that pass through? What happens if a European ship passes through without paying the toll. Is the US Navy going to fire on them? Its all so ill thought out. The diplomatic equivalent of throwing a tantrum.

The vast majority of "foreign investment" in this country that trump lies about goes to entities created or controlled by members of the trump cult of corruption. Oil futures are approaching the triple digits once again. The Houthis have attacked Red Sea shipping, escalating the conflict.

I've read elsewhere that the US strategic petroleum reserve has been blunting the consequences of this war. Supposedly its at the lowest point in over forty years.

It's almost certain Iran knows this (it's available to anyone via world news). I wonder if they're trying to drag things out as long as possible. The SPR won't last forever. I'm not well versed in the commodities market so maybe this is a total non issue.
