2026 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Also going well in America. On third of Dems and 'Dem leaning' now identify as democratic socialists. Idk what the Nov consequences will be, but I love enthusiasm and idealism and it's not like traditional Dems have been the corruption-free visionaries we need.

The GOP should get on board and campaign on this.

US Rep. Chuck Edwards may be continuing a "proud" NC11 tradition of FAILURE.

Chainsaw Charly Taylor
Blue Dog carpet bagger Heath Shuler
Democracy-hating Mark Meadows
MadCaw
Now Chuck Edwards?

I get that NC11 is con and there's nothing I can do about it, but why do we pick such absolutely rotten Reps?
I should ask why do NC11 cons, SoupySales' buddies, pick such absolutely rotten Reps?

... Edwards said he plans to complete his term - but cites much prayer and reflection in making the difficult decision. This announcement comes after the United States House of Ethics Committee recommended a censure. following allegations of sexual misconduct with some of his staffers.

That recommendation stems from the committee concluding in a new report that there is substantial reason to believe he violated House rules .... creating a hostile workplace. The report alleges Edwards gave two female staffers a surplus of gifts– including jewelry totaling over $1,000, designer purses, guns, flowers, vacations and "one-on-one" dinners.

... Edwards won the May Primary for the Republican candidate for North Carolina District 11. With his withdrawal, the local Republican party will now choose a replacement candidate to run on the GOP ticket.
WNC cons have consistently been bad for the district, state and nation.

I don't remember much about Taylor as I just moved here near the end of his service. Cawthorn was an absolute fraud but the dems could not find a person who could beat him. The GOP voters dismissed him in the next primary. I thought Meadows was an effective rep. I have been ambivalant about Edwards, but he performed as a conservative..

This development may be a gift for the dems as Ager seems to be a decent candidate. I have no idea who the GOP candidate will be now.

Edward's must have more skeletons, he still would have won.

Running as a dem in WNC is a futile exercise, especially after gerrymandering.

:(

I forgot to include the headline above.

North Carolina Rep. Chuck Edwards withdraws from re-election campaign

 Don't let the door hit you . . .

An opening for Jamie Ager (D)? Probably not, NC11 cons have a proud tradition of suck to uphold.

Lol

It took me a sec.

Yeah, the proud tradition of voting against their own interests will continue.

Okay, I won't blame you for him. Your friends, though . . .

He was a disaster for western forests and wilderness, maybe the east, too.
Cawthorn was an absolute fraud but the dems could not find a person who could beat him.
It's NC11, duh. We're stuck with whatever crap you cons fling at us.
The GOP voters dismissed him in the next primary.
Barely. Fundies are pigheaded and strong here.
I thought Meadows was an effective rep.
Don't forget about the attempted coup the traitor engineered.
I have been ambivalant about Edwards, but he performed as a conservative..
Lower key MAGAt, until he got busted for abusing staff.

Chuckie must have really been hated in Congress. What he is alleged to have done barely qualifies for as a party foul in today's pussy grabbing Republican environment.

There is probably a "rest of the story" we will never know about.

As for a replacement I would prefer a primary. However, I understand the calendar does not make this feasible.

Even GQP Houses notice that NC11 cons elect absolutely rotten Reps. Maybe they should stay home and allow competent and patriotic adults to do the voting.

Really? An "investigation" is necessary to discover the obvious?

Looking for objective answers to how/why this happens, I come up with nothing other than enough voters are going to vote Republican no matter who is on the ballot, and they put up crooked candidates because they can.

Sorry, I've been giving them story ideas since the Chuck muck surfaced.

MadCaw wasn't really "put up" like Chuck and Meadows were. NC11 RepuQs chose him out of nowhere with a strong showing by fundies.

Cawthorn benefited from his primary opponent was a crony of Meadows' wife with no political experience. I was one who did not like the way that looked.
