Saw this story on the yahoo news feed this morning. I'd be curious to know what our resident right winger would have to say about the facts laid out here. And perhaps in some fantasy world, the CPF crowd might read this and come to their senses. Nah.

An opinion piece citing FACTS.
And the facts are ever since "trickle down" became a thing (and be honest, that's exactly what Shrub and DonOld have done) Republicans have sucked on the economy and jobs.
Surprise!

I agree that Kerry's swiftboating was a good example of massive perception change - and there are many others. Problem is, it never has worked with Tru*p, and not for lack of trying. The first mistake we all made was thinking his "I could shoot somebody..." was a joke.
Inquire about the "worst scandal affecting US politicians" and here's what you get:
Seriously, if you can't derail a presidential candidate with the pussy-grabbing, sexual assault ruling, fraud convictions, insults to war heros, etc., it's probably time to try another tactic.
Inquire about the "worst scandal affecting US politicians" and here's what you get:
Plus, there are many other examples of "minor" scandals that have nevertheless brought down many in politics. The sad (and dangerous) part is that essentially everything on that list, or any other publicized scandals, is done by Tru*p and/or his administration* every effin' day.The worst scandals in U.S. political history involve massive corruption, abuse of presidential power, and constitutional crises. Landmark events like the Watergate break-in and the Teapot Dome oil bribes shattered public trust and brought down top federal officials.
Major Presidential and Cabinet Scandals
Watergate (1972): Burglars tied to President Richard Nixon’s reelection campaign broke into the Democratic National Committee headquarters. Nixon’s attempts to cover up the crime led to his historic resignation in 1974. Read more about the crisis via Britannica.
Teapot Dome (1922): Secretary of the Interior Albert B. Fall took secret bribes from oil tycoons. He leased federal oil reserves in Wyoming and California without competitive bidding. Fall became the first cabinet member sent to prison.
Iran-Contra Affair (1986): Senior Reagan administration officials secretly sold weapons to Iran. They used the profits to illegally fund right-wing Contra rebels in Nicaragua despite a congressional ban. Opinions are mixed on Reddit regarding whether this or Watergate was more damaging to the Constitution.
Whiskey Ring (1875): Government officials and distillers conspired to cheat the U.S. Treasury out of millions in whiskey tax revenue during President Ulysses S. Grant’s administration.
Legislative and Institutional Corruption
Crédit Mobilier (1872): Executives of the Union Pacific Railroad formed a fake construction company. They bribed members of Congress and Vice President Schuyler Colfax with discounted stock to secure federal subsidies.
The Keating Five (1989): Five U.S. Senators intervened improperly with federal regulators on behalf of Charles Keating. Keating was the head of a failed savings and loan association that cost taxpayers billions.
Seriously, if you can't derail a presidential candidate with the pussy-grabbing, sexual assault ruling, fraud convictions, insults to war heros, etc., it's probably time to try another tactic.

As others have pointed out, facts have no partisan bias. Granted, the Rooseveilt era added tens of millions of jobs to the economy, but there is no way to spin the obvious trend and historical facts behind the story. But I a am totally not surprised that you adopt the Fox News interpretation of it. I knew that when I posted my comment. You people are so predictable.supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 10:13 amAn opinion piece by a self declared liberal. STOLEN ELECTION!Lindell’s governor ticket challenges now-certified GOP primary defeat
Now-certified election results in Minnesota’s Republican governor primary face a set of challenges from the ticket of Mike Lindell.
Lindell said Wednesday he would pay for a “hand recount and audit” of primary ballots and his running mate has filed a Minnesota Supreme Court petition alleging problems with voting and tabulation systems.
In a written statement announcing the recount bid, Lindell said “Even if this recount and audit does not overturn my election for governor of Minnesota, I believe this is the gateway to getting rid of these electronic voting machines.”
... Lindell said he wants a recount that includes designated observers and that reconciles vote totals with the number of voters who participated in the primary. Without many details, he suggested irregularities....

I asked a McDonald's worker whether there is a difference since Edwards sold the franchises. She said, "Yes, and not for the better." Bold statement to a stranger. Now Chuck Edwards?
I get that NC11 is con and there's nothing I can do about it, but why do we pick such absolutely rotten Reps?
https://wlos.com/news/local/north-carol ... misconductWNC cons have consistently been bad for the district, state and nation.... Edwards said he plans to complete his term - but cites much prayer and reflection in making the difficult decision. This announcement comes after the United States House of Ethics Committee recommended a censure. following allegations of sexual misconduct with some of his staffers.
That recommendation stems from the committee concluding in a new report that there is substantial reason to believe he violated House rules .... creating a hostile workplace. The report alleges Edwards gave two female staffers a surplus of gifts– including jewelry totaling over $1,000, designer purses, guns, flowers, vacations and "one-on-one" dinners.
... Edwards won the May Primary for the Republican candidate for North Carolina District 11. With his withdrawal, the local Republican party will now choose a replacement candidate to run on the GOP ticket.![]()
He was a disaster for western forests and wilderness, maybe the east, too. It's NC11, duh. We're stuck with whatever crap you cons fling at us.Cawthorn was an absolute fraud but the dems could not find a person who could beat him.Barely. Fundies are pigheaded and strong here. The GOP voters dismissed him in the next primary.Don't forget about the attempted coup the traitor engineered.I thought Meadows was an effective rep.Lower key MAGAt, until he got busted for abusing staff.I have been ambivalant about Edwards, but he performed as a conservative..This development may be a gift for the dems as Ager seems to be a decent candidate. I have no idea who the GOP candidate will be now.I won't hold my breath waiting for NC11 cons to suddenly become patriots.

North Carolina GOP picks Balkcom to replace Edwards as congressional nominee
The North Carolina Republican Party picked state Rep. Jennifer Balkcom to replace U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards as the GOP nominee in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District, which covers western North Carolina. Edwards dropped out of the race last week amid allegations of sexual harassment.
... In her first term, Balkcom was a primary sponsor of legislation that banned transgender girls and women from competing in women's sports in middle school, high school and college athletics in North Carolina. Republican legislators in 2023 voted to override a veto by then-Gov. Roy Cooper to enact the bill into law....
I worked for 20 years to help achieve it.Trump administration moves to open untouched national forests to logging
... supporters of the roadless rule say it emerged as a cornerstone of U.S. conservation policy, limiting industrial activity and preserving habitat on vast swaths of public forest and grassland from Alaska to Florida.
"The roadless rule protects some of the most valuable public lands that belong to all Americans," said Drew Caputo, a senior attorney with the environmental group, Earthjustice. "It is the most important land protection measure of the last 60 years."
LIARS!... This rule change comes during a blistering summer season when Western states are once again battling massive wildfires. Administration officials said by rescinding the roadless rule they would also allow forest managers more flexibility to prevent and combat blazes.
As I posted here recently. Also, the burning of slash piles are a major cause of fires.... But Caputo with Earth Justice pointed to research showing that more than 80% of wild land blazes are caused by human activity. He predicted that more backcountry roads could mean more big fires. "The chances of a thrown cigarette or a hot car engine igniting a fire go way up," he said....
Chainsaw Charly Taylor orgasmed upon hearing the news.

Yeah, the Holston plant is one of the few major employers in this area. It used to be operated by the Army but is now run by a private company with Army oversight. That same plant (with assistance from Eastman Chemical) invented the RDX explosive back during WWII. Rumor in these parts is that the mountains surrounding the plant are storage areas for massive amounts of explosives of different kinds. The place is likely a target. It's about ten miles from where I sit.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 9:47 pmKingsport, Tennesseeneoplacebo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 10:24 amYeah, me too. Re: 2026 Elections
Fake news, stolen election! In Wisconsin, David Crowley defeats Francesca Hong in Democratic primary for governor
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley has won the Democratic nomination for governor of Wisconsin, according to a race call by the Associated Press. He narrowly defeated state Rep. Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist whose campaign had challenged the party establishment.
Phew, close one. Crowley will know that he can't dismiss WI lefties.David Crowley 39.8% 315,308
Francesca Hong 39.3% 311,512
Ah, I'm okay with that tradeoff.... Crowley, 40, would be the state's first Black governor if he wins in the fall.
He will face U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, who is endorsed by President Trump and won his party's primary decisively. One of Congress' most conservative members by voting record, Tiffany challenged 2020 election results....
... He told voters that national Republican-aligned groups spent millions propping up Hong, ostensibly in an effort to select an opponent they saw as beatable.
Good on him. GoCrowleyGo!But Crowley chafed at being called an establishment alternative to a progressive upstart. He's a native of inner city Milwaukee, who grew up experiencing eviction and drug addiction in his family. He rose through political positions, working on Democratic U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold's 2010 reelection campaign, before joining the state Assembly. In 2020, he became the youngest and first Black Milwaukee County executive.
