The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Lady O and I are fortunate to live in a place with a pretty stable climate. If you had to guess without looking, and every day you guessed the weather would be 70's and sunny, you'd be right way more than wrong. So the weather chicks don't have much of a difficult job and therefore they make a big deal when they can. A quarter inch rain is treated like a foot of snow other places, and "cold front" means temps may get to low to mid 60's. So when they talked about "extreme heat warning", I'm thinking "yeah, yeah, what's it going to do, get up to 82?" But nooooo. This week its gonna be mid to upper 80's at the beach (above average but certainly not miserable), but inland, even a little, it's gonna be hot. They said Borrego Springs may be 115, but that's in the effin' desert, so what? Then they said Ramona - Ramona at 1,400 feet, not in the desert, and only 30 miles from the coast is gonna get up to 110. Real temp, not feels like. And then at least one climatologist says this may be the coolest summer we'll ever see again in our lifetime.

But at least it's good that Tru*p has declared climate change to be a hoax and disabled all meaningful communication about it. Otherwise it might really be dangerously hot.

Events and facts will never change the deniers minds because their minds weren't set from facts. They'll always find another answer, just like they do for "acts of God".

Your turn. :problem:
'The whole beach is gone': Big waves bring destruction to SoCal coast. It's a warning

... But Long Beach wasn't the only victim of the ocean's effortless wrath over the weekend. High surf pounded the region's increasingly fragile coastline from Malibu to San Diego, and experts say it could be only a taste of what is ahead as the El Niño forecast continues to strengthen.

"Unfortunately this is just a preview," University of California climate scientist Daniel Swain said Tuesday during a discussion of the storm. "The coastal flooding later this year … it will get worse this fall and especially this winter." ...
Ut-oh
Nicolas Cage's Malibu driveway just fell into a sinkhole — and the comments are unfortunately hilarious
It must've been the unbearable weight of massive talent!

... Instagram commenters are showing up in force, and their responses range from mystical to accusatory to chock-full of schadenfreude. Most IGers are onto Cage for accidentally unearthing something significant, with more than one joking that "the real Declaration of Independence is down there!"

Clearly Cage will never live down his National Treasure legacy. "A National Treasure was hidden down there, too!" "Where are the bodies, Nick?!" "I guess he has to set up two pyramids in New Orleans to appease the spirits." And "This is the most Nicholas cage s**t ever."

Not everyone was in a joking mood, though. "I bet he has a few more homes he can run to and be gone in 60 seconds." "So much for Knowing." ...

Tamarack beach in Carlsbad has taken a pounding, with most of the sand now eroded. It's still surfable, but you have to be sure to bail before you hit the rocks. And a few days ago, they closed the waterfront parking lot because of crumbling.
