Seneca Nation requests reversal on ‘Lake America’ executive order

Seneca Nation President J. Conrad Seneca called Friday for President Trump to rescind his order to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America," citing a 225-year-old treaty between Native Americans and the U.S. government.

Seneca said in a statement that this name change, which President Trump authorized in a Thursday executive order, violated the terms of the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua.

"The President cannot assert ownership over our culture or erase it through irresponsible political action," he said in a statement.

President George Washington and leaders of the Haudenosaunee confederacy, which includes the Seneca Nation, signed the treaty to assert a shared commitment to peace. The document laid out the Seneca Nation's boundaries as "beginning on Lake Ontario."

The lake's name comes from the Huron Indigenous people's word "oniatarí:io," which translates to "lake of shining waters." ...

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), whose state borders the lake, said she would not honor the renaming request....

This is another one of those things that had Obama or some other president I supported threatened to do, I would likely turn against them for being a complete fucking moron. This is not the behavior of a "global leader". It's not the behavior of a well adjusted adult. It's the behavior of an individual with some severe psychological and personality issues. This is something I'd expect a twelve year old to threaten if given the helm, not an adult, let alone the president.

20 episodes of about 45 or so minutes each - that's a lot of war. It's extremely informative and interesting and covers in great detail all aspects of the war both in Europe and the Pacific. Worth at least a full semester course in history class.

The name (term) "Hitler" has developed into a generic term for evil, particularly in government officials - so much so that we have "Godwin's Law" and so much so that it's often taken as more a broad insult than actual comparison.

However, it is frighteningly apparent that whether intentional or not, Hitler was a prime Tru*p role model. In the way he thought, the way he approached the world and the war, his view on non-Aryan peoples and nationalism. Including the paranoia and other mental issues occurring as Hitler becomes more desperate toward the end of the war. Tru*p's building a bunker - maybe they'll come to a similar end.

Takes a long time to get through the series, but each episode is somewhat independent without being presented in strict sequence. So a viewer can pick and choose if the entire 20-episode presentation is too much.

Yeah, lots of people find correlations in stuff like "Patriot Games" and "Hitler Youth" as well as noting accurate similarities to the expulsion of Jews and Poles to Tru*p's mass deportations. Even though (as far as we know) Tru*p has not ordered any mass executions, it is entirely believable that if something similar occurred in one of these holding areas (like a place similar to "Alligator Alcatrez") he'd look to cover it up in lieu of condemning it. And it's also totally believable that Miller would order it.

But I found it more disturbing to compare the mental and behavioural aspects of Hitler and Tru*p, which gives great insight into why they do what they do/did.
