It looks like Aztecs are 40 point favourites over Portland State? That's ridiculous to even schedule a team with that much difference. They could have just played a local high school instead. I wouldn't want the Aztecs to actually lose to them, but it would be fun if it's still close in the mid-fourth.

Toney, Mensah shatter Miami records in blowout of Stanford

Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney began his sophomore campaign with the most prolific receiving game in program history as the Hurricanes opened the season Friday night with a 45-6 win against Stanford.

Ouch, congrats.

Toney, who finished with 12 receptions, broke a school record with 234 receiving yards, surpassing Eddie Brown's mark (220) that was set in 1984, and tied the single-game mark for touchdown catches (3). Only two of his catches, including a 47-yard touchdown, came in the second half.

"It means a lot, knowing how many greats played at this university," Toney said of the records.

Toney and new quarterback Darian Mensah, the high-profile transfer from Duke, connected on a 48-yard pass on the Hurricanes' first play from scrimmage. The duo made it look easy the rest of the way, until both were removed in the third quarter with the win well in hand.

... Mensah led Duke to the ACC title last year, throwing for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns ...

Mensah's debut went about as well as Miami could have wanted. He finished 27-of-30 for a career-high 401 yards and five touchdowns, more than (Carson) Beck threw in a game last season. Mensah set marks for the most passing yards and touchdowns in a debut for Miami....

Almost all of this weekend's games are predicted blowouts . Here is my preference in the remaining one:

Some sanity remains at LSU by not placing those ex-NFL signees on the roster. I believe the SEC was serious about possibly evicting LSU from the conference if the players played.

Meh, it's not as if any real NFL starters are involved. These are guys that left college because their (former plan) eligibility ran out and they got granted another year. Not likely to bring any significant advantage to their team just because they spent a few weeks in training camp.

Pitt's Mason Heintschel ties school record with 7 TD passes

Sophomore Mason Heintschel threw seven touchdown passes, tying the school record, and Pittsburgh rolled to a 59-14 win against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.

Heintschel, a true sophomore, equaled the school record set by Pete Gonzalez against Rutgers on Oct. 25, 1997.

"We came out and executed," Heintschel said. "I'm just proud of our guys, and I think everybody did a really great job with their preparation."

Heintschel, who won the job midway through the season last year, completed 31 of 41 passes for 453 yards. His touchdown throws went to seven different receivers during his first season-opening start.

"It's never by design, but I'm glad we were able to share the wealth," Heintschel said. "At least eight different guys scored, and you can't complain about that." ...
