I like to log onto NextDoor (a neighborhood social media app) from time to time to see what people in my town are thinking. A good chunk of the replies to the posts about Nordone winning tend to be something like "ugh I don't care for her and think shes a terrible candidate but I'll never vote for a Democrat".

Satan himself could win the Republican primary running on a platform of bringing to fruition a thousand years of hell on earth and these hopeless fucking dipshits would go to the polls mumbling to themselves "Well I certainly cant vote democrat so I guess Satan it is".

Nordone is her married name. I can't verify whether or not she legally changed her surname to Nordone or not though, so i may in fact be in the wrong here.

Most elections have unfortunately become a question of "lesser evil" and single-issue allegiance. Anyway, Jews didn't have to vote for Sliwa - they could have voted for Cuomo instead. People thought Cuomo was sleazy (which of course would have helped if he'd been a Republican), and they've had several decades to know Sliwa is Sliwa. And a lot of people understand that opposition to the politics of the government of Israel isn't the same as being antisemitic. To say so is the equivalent of saying that opposition to the politics and actions of the original Black Panthers is tantamount to supporting discrimination against all Black people.

Wednesday night brought exciting new programming to the fall television schedule. I am, of course, referring to the NFL's season opener, a Super Bowl rematch between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

The first night of the Republican Party's midterm convention in Texas, on the other hand, lacked memorable moments. There were some surprises, to be sure. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, for instance, chose not to attend the convention — a decision more understandable after the mention of his name drew boos from the crowd. And Sen. John Fetterman's video introduction for his fellow Pennsylvania Sen. David McCormick reignited Democrats' fears that Fetterman may change parties. Fetterman put out a statement saying he will remain a Democrat, but that will hardly quiet his party's concerns.

When Trump finally came out in the 9 p.m. hour, he spoke for more than 90 minutes. Like a tired old lounge singer, he tried to belt out the old hits.

The made-for-TV event was, in fact, largely of a rerun. "Trumpapalooza," as some Republicans are calling it, may serve better as a funeral for Republican majorities in the House and possibly the Senate. With less than two months to go, Republicans are down in enthusiasm and down in the polls. Trump's reverse alchemy has even turned ruby-red Texas into a purple amethyst.

... And Trump's super PAC is finally beginning to spend its hundreds of millions of dollars, while Elon Musk has reportedly committed at least $100 million toward Republican victories. Money cannot stop a wave election, but it can mitigate one....

I don't believe it will happen. He is to democrats what McCain was to the GOP. I sense he enjoys his contrarian role within the dem party. For that reason, the dems should let up on Fetterman - they need him.

(state Rep. David) Morales defeated (Providence Mayor Brett) Smiley in Wednesday's primary, marking another win for the Democratic Party's left flank this primary cycle.

As of 9 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Morales led Smiley by 6 points in the vote returns.

Democratic socialists have dominated the conversation this primary season — and the surging energy on the far left shows no signs of waning. Several democratic socialists are on track to win House elections in November, while two notched the Democratic nomination for Senate in Florida and Oklahoma.

Morales's victory over Smiley adds another socialist to the mayoral ranks across the country. Morales is expected to easily win his general election in the blue state.

Both Seattle and New York City are led by democratic socialists: Mayors Katie Wilson and Zohran Mamdani, respectively.

I know that many fear that the DSA will harm Dems overall, and they might be correct. However, I'm thrilled to see the Dems finally challenged to live up to the values they espouse.

Judge Luttig is a smart man. And I think he's correct in that Republicans will do whatever it takes to stay in power. I really dread the idea that somebody like trump can actually destroy our country. And the fact that congressional Republicans enable him makes me want to stomp something.

President Donald Trump jokingly led thousands of Republicans in a pledge to “cheat like hell” in the midterm elections, with video of the moment going viral on social media.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention in Dallas on Thursday, Trump asked attendees to raise their right hands and repeat a pledge to vote on November 3—even if they were not registered—and to “cheat like hell,” as he has repeatedly claimed that the Democrats do.

“I don’t care if I’m registered or not, I’m going to try and cheat like hell like they do,” Trump said, pausing as members of the crowd repeated his words. “There’s never been bigger cheaters.”

Of course it's sane-washed as "joking". The president should be held to a higher standard than that of a teenager saying edgy "jokes".

Sometimes I can't tell whether or not Donald Trump is subtly mocking his supporters to flex the power he has over them. One of his big gripes has always been claims of his opponents cheating and rigging elections. His followers likewise. Hence the whole "we need to secure our elections" claims.

Now he's openly telling his own supporters to cheat and they cheer him on. Is he showing the world his followers are nothing more than dogs that'll do whatever he commands, even if it goes against something they claim to be opposed to?

New poll rattles Texas governor's race as Election Day looms

A new poll shows the Texas governor's race has swung to a dead heat — erasing the lead Gov. Greg Abbott had held over his Democratic challenger for months.

The N+ Univision Sept. 9 poll showed the Republican incumbent and Democrat Gina Hinojosa tied at 47%, with 5% undecided, and was released the day Republicans convened in Texas for their first midterm convention.

The poll also showed that Democrat state Rep. James Talarico has a narrow edge over Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, 48% to 43%, with 7% undecided in the Texas Senate race.

Texass has pulled the football away in the past.

... Overall, the N+ Univision poll showed that since the 2024 election, Texas voters have shifted 8 points more toward Democrats, with 25% saying they have become more supportive of Democrats and 17% saying they have become more supportive of Republicans.

Among Hispanic voters, the shift is even larger, at 11 points. The single most-cited reason for changing views was President Donald Trump's actions as president, named by 25% of voters in the poll and 24% of Hispanic voters.

The poll also found that 44% of voters view Abbott favorably and 47% unfavorably, while 42% view Hinojosa favorably and 29% unfavorably.

Abbott also has a negative favorability rating among Hispanic voters, sitting at 41% to 50%.
