Greenland
It was announced yesterday that the US had cut a deal with Greenland that locks out China. I know you guys will not agree, but it was what Trump desired. The talk of statehood was never z desire of Trump. I suppose one might call it : The Art Of The Deal".

Re: Greenland
As far as I can tell, the existing agreement would allow for all the things trump claimed are new except maybe the explicit denial of Russian or Chinese incursion. So I don't see much of anything new or better in this new "deal" that isn't already in the deal from 1951. I suspect you're injecting some TDS (trump devotional syndrome) in your take.

As usual, our local MAGA spokesperson swallows whole Dementia Don's sour grapes bleating over this humiliating defeat of his crackpot plan to own Greenland.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 8:55 amAs far as I can tell, the existing agreement would allow for all the things trump claimed are new except maybe the explicit denial of Russian or Chinese incursion. In reality, the official text has not been released, it has not yet been finalized. Remember all the Iran "deals"? As you say, under a 1951 agreement with Denmark the US can already send as many troops as it wants to Greenland. I know, I've even been to the Thule Air Base, now Pituffik, in the north-western tip of the territory.
... "Don't tell Trump that it's the Kingdom of Denmark that has won," read one headline in the newspaper Berlingske on Saturday.
"The Art Of The Deal" is really just DonOLD's way of always sugarcoating what's happened, even his LOSSES."Trump didn't get Greenland, but he was allowed to take a victory lap on social media," wrote a US correspondent for Politiken. Territorial integrity was a red line for Denmark and Greenland, and the US president has made no mention of any territory changing hands...

Why am I not surprised at the response to my post. My point was Trump never seriously thought about seizing Greenland. It was to get their attention. I agree the details will tell. However, if it includes agreement by Greenland that Russia and/or China will not be able to build facilities it is a win for the USA not just Trump.

You're a fool and a tool.
Denmark is a NATO member.
There was never any chance of Russia or China building there.

One can think belonging to NATO is a deterrent if Russia or China really wanted through feel free to do so. I don't.

Tru*p "deal making" always follows a consistent and predictable pattern:
1. Take away or threaten to take away something of real. Or perceived value
2. Offer to "negotiate" a return of part of that taken in exchange for something he wants
3. Loudly announce having reached a "great deal" usually before anybody has agreed to it.
4. Keep what was received and renege on giving back what was taken.
Most would mor likely refer to that as the "Art of Extortion"

Re: Greenland
It won't matter. TDS is omnipotent. Like I noted, there seems to be nothing new in this "deal trump came up with. Or nothing for the US that we didn't already have. But TDS is what makes it magical and amazing for the cult. I remember twenty some years ago when Supes would claim he'd gladly pad high gas prices to get rid of Obama. I guess he'll also want to pay high gas prices (and higher prices on pretty much everything) to support trump. It's sort of like a political death cult in the same way Christian nationalism is. I'm just glad not to suffer from TDS. It must be awful.Vrede too wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 8:49 pm![]()

Re: Greenland
From what I've been reading, the new deal isn't really all that different from the one that was already in effect since the 1950s. The US already had pretty much unrestricted military access to Greenland.
- The new deal specifically mentions only NATO members have access to military installations in Greenland. Which was basically already the case. In fact this is likely a win for Denmark/Greenland/NATO as it binds the US more tightly to NATO. The old deal didn't explicitly bar non-NATO military installations, but as stated by other posters, its incredibly unlikely that Greenland and Denmark would allow Chinese or Russian military installations anyway. I guess this point is the main "win"?
- Greenland wasnt a party to the old deal, only the US and Denmark. The new deal also includes Greenlandic assent to any decisions. Previously only Denmark was given this right. Now both are involved.
- New bases. The new agreement allows a few more bases to be established. Under both old and new agreements, bases can be established only if Greenland-Denmark agree. The US can't unilaterally establish bases wherever they want. This was the case in both the old, and is still the case in the new agreement. Maybe this can be considered the second most consequential win?
My conclusion: I feel like threatening a county's sovereignty was not worth these incredibly inconsequential "wins" that were basically already in place. These all sound like boring bureaucratic details that are usually hashed out behind the scenes outside of the news cycle because they're so inconsequential that it's akin to basically updating the terms of service of a website that reaffirms whats already been said.
If I'm missing something please let me know. The White House with it's known penchant for lying and facebook-esque brain-rot is touting this as a massive geopolitical win, but I can't seem to find any details that indicate that. It appears to me that Denmark and Greenland found a simple way to placate the child running the United States by allowing him to save face and dupe his followers into claiming a massive "win"

Re: Greenland
Looks like supes STILL can't comprehend that even under the existing 51 agreement, had China or what was then the Soviet Union attempted to establish a military base or any other facility in Greenland, it would have triggered Article 5 or the NATO alliance. All that would have to happen is for Greenland or Denmark to advocate that it be invoked.
trump's deal is the exact same deal the he had about Mexico paying for a border wall. It's not a deal....not even a concept of a deal. Oh, I read yesterday that trump is kicking nearly a millioln folks off Obamacare He claims many of those enrollees do no exist and the others are just fraud.. Winning!
