North Carolina man charged with three counts of statutory rape held on ICE detainer
Juan Ramon Juarez-Talamantes, 29, was charged with two counts of statutory rape in November with a child between 13 and 15 years old and a third count last month, according to a release from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina.

... The former president appeared on Monday at an event hosted by Texas Senator John Cornyn, who lost to Ken Paxton in the state's March primary. The event, which was for the Maintain the Majority fundraising committee, aimed to boost several Republican Senate incumbents and candidates in Iowa, Alaska, Michigan, Minnesota, and Maine.

Many of those who attended the event were, according to The New York Times, part of the old guard who have opted not to publicly support Attorney General Ken Paxton as he challenges James Talarico for the Lone Star State's Senate seat. Currently, several polls show the Democrat leading Paxton in what is the most closely watched and vital Senate race.

The former president is not the only Republican in Texas to fight against the MAGA line. Karl Rove, the veteran GOP strategist behind Bush's successful campaigns for governor and president, said he would rather vote for Democrat Jon Rosenthal than Republican Bo French in the race for the Texas Railroad Commission.

In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Rove commented that his vote changed after French shared an image of non-white University of Texas students on his X account with the caption: "The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined." Rove wrote, "The GOP has a growing number of Bo Frenches — and not only in Texas."

"There are 'just asking questions' Jew-haters," Rove added. "Misogynists who worship hypermasculinity, conspiracy nuts seeking clicks for profit, and religious bigots who won't differentiate between Muslim terrorists and Muslim American patriots."

French's remarks were met with universal condemnation from Texas Republicans, with Cornyn calling on other Republicans to speak out against the post.

"This is the Republican nominee for statewide office," Cornyn, 74, said. "Are other Republican elected officials going to condemn the intolerance and racism, or look the other way while it becomes normalized?"

"This is how great political parties self-destruct," He added. "Sad."
