Looks like freedom to get a preventable disease is better than submitting to a public health common sense measure. Next thing you know they'll refuse to get driver licenses. It's the dawn of the sovereign citizen insanity stage. Many will love it. many will die. The ones who love it will still love it in the face of reality.

Yep. Some innocents will die, too.
Newborn babies exposed to measles in Texas hospital

On Wednesday, a woman gave birth in a Lubbock, Texas, hospital in the middle of a deadly and fast-growing measles outbreak. Doctors didn’t realize until the young mother had been admitted and in labor that she was infected with the measles.

By that time, other new moms, newborn babies and their families at University Medical Center Children’s Hospital in Lubbock had unknowingly been exposed to the virus, considered one of the most contagious in the world.

Hospital staff are scrambling with damage control efforts — implementing emergency masking policies and giving babies as young as three days old injections of immunoglobulin, an antibody that helps their fragile immune system fight off infections....
The pro-vax parents must be beside themselves with needless worry. :angry-cussing:

I'm pretty sure I had measles when I was a kid. Or maybe it was chicken pox. I remember having something that gave me a bunch of little red spots. I know I had the mumps; I remember how my cheeks sort of swelled up and would jiggle if I moved fast. I remember my mom being real concerned that I not exert myself....she thought I could render myself sterile. Anyway, I survived. And generated another generation. I owe it all to Dr. Flanary, who I remember coming to the house and taking my temperature. With an oral thermometer. He had a black bag and a black car. That was back when everybody knew what ws true an what was bullshit. ok

Actually it was a few years before that. I remember two kids in elementary school who had braces on their legs because they had polio. I didn't know shit about polio other than it was bad. It was about 61 or 62. I remember getting vaccinations; even at school. One was an oral vaccine....might have been for polio. And I remember taking a sugar cube with some kind of vaccine in it. That was before I knew about LSD, though. :D

The pre-LSD sugar cube was polio.

We were fully funding the French until they got their asses kicked in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. They left by 1956 and from that point on we propped up a series of incompetent jerks in the South, including with "advisors" courtesy of JFK. You know the rest better than most.

I remember thinking how weird it was to be dong a medical thing by just sucking on a sugar cube; I think it had sort of a pink dot on it. Prior to that, my only experience with medical stuff was shots or a piece of paper directing me to take some amount of spoonfuls of some vile bad tasting shit whose benefit was mostly how I wished I wasn't sick and didn't have to take this shit.

I didn't really understand or pay attention to Vietnam until about 67 when things started to slip and the "reports" didn't seem to fit with the reality. You's see it every night on tv but then you'd see Nixon and McNamara on tv saying things are gong just fine. Then a few years after that, Ellsberg blew the whistle and that's when I really started wanting to start stomping. I guess I've been stomping to a feverish beat ever since. More so now. Stomping emoji.

CDC shooter believed COVID vaccine made him suicidal, his father tells police

A Georgia man who opened fire on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters, shooting dozens of rounds into the sprawling complex and killing a police officer, had blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Saturday.

The 30-year-old shooter also tried to get into the CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta but was stopped by guards before driving to a pharmacy across the street and opening fire late Friday afternoon, the official said. He was armed with five guns, including at least one long gun, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the investigation....

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., whose skepticism of vaccines has been a cornerstone of his career, voiced support for CDC employees Saturday. But some laid-off CDC employees said Kennedy shares responsibility for the violence and should resign.

CDC shooter identified

... The father said his son had been upset over the death of the son’s dog, and he had also become fixated on the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the official....
:wtf:
Kennedy reaches out to staff

... “Kennedy is directly responsible for the villainization of CDC’s workforce through his continuous lies about science and vaccine safety, which have fueled a climate of hostility and mistrust,” said Fired But Fighting, a group of laid-off employees opposing changes to the CDC by President Donald Trump's administration.
Under Kennedy, CDC has laid off nearly 2,000 employees. Trump proposes cutting the agency’s budget in half next year, moving some CDC functions into a new Administration for a Healthy America. Kennedy has a history as a leader in the anti-vaccine movement, but he reached new prominence by spreading distrust of COVID-19 vaccines. For example, he called it “criminal medical malpractice” to give COVID-19 vaccines to children.

Kennedy parlayed that attention into a presidential bid and endorsement of Trump, leading to Trump naming him secretary. Kennedy continues to undercut the scientific consensus for vaccines, ordering $500 million cut from vaccine development funding on Tuesday.
:obscene-birdiered: :obscene-birdiered:
Opponents say officials' rhetoric contributed

Fired But Fighting also called for the resignation of Russell Vought, noting a video recorded before Trump appointed him Office of Management and Budget director with orders to dismantle much of the federal government.

“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected,” Vought said in the video, obtained by ProPublica and the research group Documented. “When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work, because they are increasingly viewed as the villains.”

... This shooting was the “physical embodiment of the narrative that has taken over, attacking science, and attacking our federal workers,” said Sarah Boim, a former CDC communications staffer who was fired this year during a wave of terminations.
:---P
A distrust of COVID-19 vaccines

... Nancy Hoalst, who lives on the same street as White’s family, said he seemed like a "good guy” while doing yard work and walking dogs for neighbors, but he would bring up vaccines even in unrelated conversations....
Slain officer leaves wife and 3 kids ...
:(
Growing security concerns

... One staffer said people felt like “sitting ducks” Friday. Another asked whether administrators had spoken with Kennedy and if they could speak to “the misinformation, the disinformation” that “caused this issue.”

It is clear CDC leaders fear employees could continue to be targeted. In a Saturday email obtained by the AP, CDC's security office asked employees to scrape old CDC parking decals off their vehicles. The office said decals haven’t been required for some time.
COVIDiocy is deadly, again. :problem:

Gee, I wonder why that guy would think such a thing. Could it be from watching incessant lies on right wing media? It's possible. Could it be from watching liberal oriented media? Nah, none of them stirred any of that bullshit. The best thing is that we won't have to deal with that particular moron anymore.

:angry-banghead: Guess I should have gone to Walgreens instead of waiting for my independent pharmacy to get a shipment in. Hopefully, my PMD can just e-order it if I email him, if my pharmacy will still get it. I'll wait a week to let the dust settle then see.

Unintended consequences:
Newborn vitamin K shot refusal jumps by 57%

... Vitamin K is crucial for blood clotting, but babies are born with very low levels. This puts them risk of vitamin K deficiency bleeding, which can lead to complications and death in newborns.

The vitamin K shot became a routine vaccination for newborns in the 1960s. According to the National Institute of Health, this single shot administered to the thigh muscle within a day of birth "essentially eliminated cases of bleeding from vitamin K deficiency nationwide."

"It's really terrifying. It's like we're going backwards," Dr. Nia Heard-Garris, pediatric physician-scientist at Lurie Children's Hospital, Chicago, said of growing refusals in a Reuters report. "We're trying really hard to keep little babies alive."
:angry-banghead:
... In recorded cases of VKBD, researchers at the American Academy of Neurology found that for babies who developed the condition, "approximately 14% of the babies died, about 40% had long-term neurological disabilities such as cognitive impairment, seizures or motor deficits and about 63% of babies had brain bleeds." ...
:( Sounds like we're creating more morons who will refuse vitamin K for their babies.

 MAGA despises babies.

I’m an Infectious Disease Doctor. Here’s the Problem with “Doing Your Own Research” on Vaccines

... Lately, I've encountered both patients and casual contacts voicing concerns. Even if parents don't flat-out reject vaccines, many will express a desire to delay or space out childhood vaccines. Others want to "wait and see" whether they feel a given shot is needed (to be clear, if you wait and see if a shot is needed, it may be too late). It's not uncommon for me to hear "Thanks, we're good for now," when I bring up any given vaccine due date or schedule.

These conversations mirror what national data tells us: vaccine avoidance is at an all-time high. Non-medical kindergarten vaccine exemptions are rising rapidly, doubling even just since the COVID-19 pandemic. National flu shot data shows a similar pandemic-era downtrend, with only ~42 percent of adults and 50 percent of children receiving the 2024-2025 vaccine. Childhood measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination coverage has fallen to 92.4 percent, below the 95 percent threshold needed to achieve herd immunity.
:angry-banghead: Must have been ~99% when I was a child.
... It doesn't help that vaccine policy and messaging have changed so drastically in recent years. Our current Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has long opposed mandatory vaccines, and has also overseen numerous developments reducing public access to unbiased information on vaccine safety and efficacy. This April, The New York Times reported that the acting head of the CDC blocked publication of a study showing COVID vaccination reduced the likelihood of emergency department visits and hospitalizations last winter by more than half. The following month, the Times also reported that the FDA withheld publication of multiple peer-reviewed, large-scale studies that supported the safety of COVID and shingles vaccines.
 I've gotten every COVID vaccine and anticipate getting the next one in the coming weeks. Hopefully, KINO won't stop Medicare from paying for them.
This represents unprecedented scientific censoring by political appointees overseeing major public health institutions like the CDC, FDA, and NIH—all of which operate under Kennedy's HHS office. The acting CDC head and top FDA officials, respectively, deemed these studies essentially not rigorous enough, calling them "inaccurate" and failing to meet the agency's high standards. Yet the same administration simultaneously promotes research highlighting vaccine concerns that veteran scientists do question the rigor of.

Beyond the literature, it's also more difficult than ever to know which experts to listen to. In June 2025, Kennedy fired the panel of experts responsible for determining CDC vaccine guidelines and attempted to drastically reduce the number of childhood vaccines that the CDC recommends. A federal judge has since blocked the implementation of his replacement panel's vaccine recommendations, highlighting that fewer than half of the new panelists appeared to have "any meaningful experience in vaccines." And in the latest development, Trump issued an executive order continuing to call for a reduced childhood vaccine schedule as well as splitting up the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine. (This is despite no evidence of harm in its combined MMR form and experts' alarm about resultant delayed protection, reduced uptake, and increased societal costs if broken up. Manufacturers also do not offer these individual vaccines in the U.S.)

Unsurprisingly, a recent study confirms that shifts in such messaging have undermined trust in vaccines. Kennedy himself has suggested parents "do your own research"—a phrase that has become increasingly tied to the anti-vaccine movement.
:angry-banghead: :obscene-birdiered:
But what does that mean in today's landscape, when half of American adults under 50 now get health information from influencers or podcasters? A 2024 study indicated nearly two-thirds of content creators do not thoroughly verify facts before posting. For creators who rely on views for income, it makes financial sense to lean into sensationalism. A.I. and social media algorithms compound this danger, making it easy to be fed anti-vax doubt using personal anecdotes and unsupported claims and harder to find level-headed and nuanced discussions about evidence-based research.
The best thing people can do is listen to advice from doctors and scientific consensus. Where individual doctors' opinions may vary, look to vetted physician societies for guidance. The American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America maintain advocacy for established vaccines. These organizations also just released their own recommendations for annual flu, COVID, and RSV vaccines based on independent review. Conversations with individual physicians also remain invaluable. These providers know you and your child's medical history—random social media influencers do not.
:angry-banghead:
... The naïveté around vaccine avoidance has made me starkly aware of our privilege and how we don't even have to consider diseases like childhood polio leaving a lifelong mark. In this context, it's even harder to explain that people in the U.S. have the luxury of refusing vaccines without penalty—for now.

For the mothers debating vaccines here in the U.S., please consider that elsewhere in the world, there is a mother who cannot comprehend taking that risk.

I'm about 25% through with a book that begins with almost this exact scenario. A genetically altered pneumonic plague leaks from a lab in Russia and causes a global pandemic. Biological War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen

Highly recommend: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biologica ... A_Scenario

I also recommend her other book: Nuclear War: A Scenario. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_War:_A_Scenario
