The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

TIL:
Paul McCartney Sings Beatles Song For The First Time In 62 Years At Taylor Swift's Wedding
The Beatle, as well as Stevie Nicks, reportedly performed at the couple's wedding.

... McCartney performed the Beatles’ No. 1 hit, and according to Rolling Stone, the last known performance of “I Want To Hold Your Hand” was Sept. 20, 1964, at a Beatles concert at Paramount Theatre in New York....
Amazing.

#ilGrandePiano - Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

Sunset in Verbania. We were rehearsing “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. 🎹
And suddenly, the streetlights came on… perfectly in time with the music.

It was just a rehearsal.
But for a moment, it felt like the whole city was magically playing with us. ✨
:shock: :-|| :-|| Verbania
Freddy Mercury said "Do anything you want with my music, just don't make it boring." I think this was a loving and beautiful tribute to one of Freddy's masterpieces. Beautifully done girls 👍👍
It's nice to see humans doing beautiful things in this troubled world.
Hands down, the best hands-free version of Bohemian Rhapsody ever.❤❤
These two ladies deserved a round of applause for that. It's clever, beautiful, and the choreography is amazing. Dang, but that must have taken months to look that good.
 Hundreds more.

Pub Choir covers Bohemian Rhapsody: 102,974 singers recorded over 2.5 years!
when she said in AGT "i run the largest choir in the world" i didn't get it, but now i understand
Freddy and Queen's "too long to be popular" song - fifty years later - sung by people whose ages span more than fifty years difference ! Fantastic.
Humans are meant to sing. And more than that, we're meant to sing TOGETHER.

Look at their faces.
:happy-cheerleaderkid: Hundreds more.

A 13-Year-Old Anna Kendrick Stunned Carnegie Hall! 🎭

Before she was a Hollywood star, a 13-year-old Anna Kendrick was already taking Broadway by storm. Watch her legendary performance of "Life Upon The Wicked Stage" from Show Boat, recorded live at Carnegie Hall on September 28, 1998.

In this iconic set from the My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies concert, Anna is joined by the Kit Kat Girls (from the then-running Broadway revival of Cabaret). Despite her young age, Kendrick's comedic timing and powerful vocals proved she was destined for stardom.

✨ 5 FAST FACTS ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE:

Broadway History: At the time of this recording, Anna Kendrick was the second-youngest person ever to be nominated for a Tony Award (for High Society).

The Cabaret Connection: The "Kit Kat Girls" performing with her were the actual cast members from the 1998 Broadway revival of Cabaret, which was playing at Studio 54 at the time.

The Leading Ladies: Anna shared the stage that night with Broadway royalty, including Liza Minnelli, Audra McDonald, Bernadette Peters, and Julie Andrews.

Comedic Brilliance: The performance is famous for the juxtaposition of a young, innocent-looking girl singing about the "wicked" life of an actress alongside the provocatively dressed Kit Kat Girls.

A Standing Ovation: This number was widely considered the "breakout" moment of the televised special, leading to Kendrick's transition from theater to a successful film career.

Maybe Meat Loaf and the fictional Karla were legal, but playing "Dashboard Light" after Meat Loaf left the building prompted the thought.
I think maybe it's more that a lot of the old songs were just written for more of a teenage audience than now. Or teenagers now are just older. What do I know? I'm a geezer.
No, I think you're correct that the other songs intentionally glorified adult (mostly) male fantasies of jailbait exploitation. That's somewhat less acceptable now to be open about, but the underlying lechery may still be as bad or worse.
Well, we know there's a lot of teacher-student activity - certainly more than I ever knew about even though I had one French teacher who certainly could have "abused" me any time she wanted. But it's not so publicly lauded as "Hot for Teacher" or "Don't Stand So Close to Me". At least the Police presents as something that must remain secretive. Most of the bubble-pop songs don't make it clear exactly how old the male is, but certainly do imply a difference. I don't remember who did the original "you're 16, you're beautiful," but the Ringo version was a bit icky as he was 30ish at the time.
"You're my baby, you're my pet
We fell in love on the night we met
You touched my hand, my heart went pop
Ooh, when we kissed I could not stop"
A teacher after your own heart:

Married teacher, 32, chose certain hours to sexually abuse underage boy on school trip, say cops

Must be embarrassing for her husband, and maybe not so embarrassing for the "victim".

"sexually abuse". Right. Also in Texas, a 24 year old teacher was charged with a bunch of stuff for sex with a 16 year old, most of which were dropped or reduced when the "victim's" father testified in her behalf, saying his son was fine, not traumatized, and well adjusted.

I know she's a major act, but I see charli xcx is playing at Viejas Arena mid-week and the cheapest tickets are high to the side of the stage at just over $200. Couple of decent tickets, drinks, dinner, parking and you're at $1,000 for a Wednesday outing.

Remember when music was a bastion of anti-materialism and a kid (me) with a near minimum wage job could afford to see major arena (Capitol Center) acts?

I think Michael Jackson is partially to blame for the rise in tickets. I remember his 1984-85 "Victory" tour had what was considered to be the highest concert prices to date - around $40. (That was well worth it, btw, and I wasn't even a MJ fan at the time). Then it became who can get by with charging more and more.
