Iran War

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Or something else.
Trump cut short his weekend at Camp David to return to the White House tonight citing the potential for significant escalation, Netanyahu cut short his US trip to return to Israel the same day, and every US embassy in the Middle East has issued a security alert in the past hours.

GOP Senate Candidates Have Been Fundraising For Gas Money
Dan Sullivan (AK), Susan Collins (ME), and Mike Collins (GA) voted for a war which spiked gas prices and are now asking their constituents to pay for gas for them to campaign

Key Points
* Republican candidates Dan Sullivan, Susan Collins, and Mike Collins solicited donations for campaign fuel and travel.
* Their fundraising appeals have been linked to support for policies associated with rising gas prices.
* Constituents face higher fuel costs while candidates ask small-dollar donors to finance campaigning.

From his lips . . . ?
GOP senator said gas prices would decide the midterms. Now they’re threatening his reelection

Republican Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas boldly declared in July that "the midterms will be decided by the price of gasoline in October."

That prediction now looks strikingly prescient — though not in the way Marshall may have hoped: October has arrived with gasoline prices sharply higher, and Republican candidates across the country facing surprisingly competitive races.

Since the war in Iran began in late February, the average price of gasoline in the US has risen by about 46%, driven largely by disruptions to global oil markets caused by the war that many Republicans, Marshall included, have consistently defended.
:---P
... Senate Leadership Fund, one of the main Republican groups supporting Senate candidates, has booked nearly $10 million worth of ads in Kansas, according to AdImpact.

That last-minute investment underscores how Marshall's unequivocal support for the war — including his insistence that its economic costs were worth bearing — has become a real liability in a state that hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.

... Rising diesel prices are particularly consequential for Kansas farmers, who rely on that fuel to operate tractors and trucks during the fall harvest and winter wheat planting season. The increased costs come as farmers are already grappling with higher fertilizer expenses and tight operating margins.

... "If this theocracy in Iran continues, and they develop a nuclear weapon and they control the strait, diesel fuel is going to go up to $15 a gallon and your fertilizers go up another 50% as well," Marshall said on RFD-TV, a channel dedicated to rural issues.
If they control the strait? If? :problem:
... The following month, Marshall pointed to the Trump administration's new memorandum of understanding with Iran as evidence that both the war and its economic consequences were easing.

... The agreement quickly unraveled. By early July, negotiations had stalled, fighting had resumed and President Donald Trump declared the memorandum of understanding "over."
Opps.
... Last week, the Cook Political Report shifted the Kansas Senate race from "Lean Republican" to "Toss Up." ...
:---P :---P :---P
If Kansas flips, the nation and Senate flip.

Last night I was watching BBC World News America and there was a story about the Saudi attack on the Yemen airport. There was a video of a guy in a hospital bed and the fucker was a dead ringer for Kash Patel....same face, same beard, same haircut. I couldn't believe it. I considered it a good omen, especially since none of the BBC commentators mentioned the resemblance.

Fingers crossed.

North Carolina has lowest gas prices in the country: What are they in Asheville?

Many drivers across North Carolina are seeing some relief at the pump, less than two weeks after state lawmakers passed a temporary state gas tax holiday. In Asheville, that trend continues.
 We'll pay for this with poorer roads and other state services.
As of Monday, Oct. 19, the average price of gasoline per gallon in North Carolina is $3.57 – the cheapest of all 50 states. This is 26 cents cheaper than last week and 56 cents cheaper than last month.

Gasoline in the Asheville metro area – which includes Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson and Madison counties – is averaging $3.69 as of Monday, according to GasBuddy's fuel insights. That is 45 cents cheaper than last month's average and 25 cents cheaper than last week's average.
$3.59 for me yesterday.
Still, gas prices in the Asheville area are approximately 89 cents higher than this time last year.
Thanks MAGA.
... The drop in gas prices in North Carolina was brought about by House Bill 3, which Gov. Josh Stein signed into law on Friday, Oct. 9. The bill, also called the "Relief at the Pump Act," temporarily suspends the state's 41-cent-per-gallon motor fuel tax. State lawmakers proposed the bill to reduce costs for drivers.
In other words I should have paid $4. :x
