Martin's parents didn't give a shit about him; until he got himself killed in an act of stupidity.

Seems the testimony was that he stayed in his vehicle, saw a neighbor kid walking in the rain and called out, "Excuse me...I'm Zimmerman, your neighbor from four houses down. Could I give you a ride home?" Martin then approached the car, opened the driver's door, and without warning and for no apparent reason, hauled Zimmerman out into the street, and began beating him over the head with his gun. Zimmerman, who was not armed, was able to take Martin's gun away from him and shoot him in a brave effort to save his own life. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Well, it's not like us queer-lovers thought up that here on our little forum. It's pretty well settled in psychoanalytic literature. If I had as much irrational disgust for any group as you do, I'd hie myself off to a shrink and find out why and if there's anything to do about it. Carrying all that around can wring the happy right out of life. Unless the group is rednecks, of course, and then total disgust is rational. You don't have to know any personally to know they're a bunch of slimey shit-sacks.

Great article. Thanks for finding it and sharing. It seems that Zimmerman's father has now written an "ebook" that is available for all of us to read. He contends:

In the chapter, "Who Are The True Racists," according to Think Progress, Zimmerman uses words like "pathetic," "self-serving" and "disgrace" when describing the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP and Martin's funeral director, among others. He says he believes they are promoting a racist agenda in the United States and around the Martin case.

I saw a video of that, and I can't believe that guy.
Zimmerman is in a world of hurt with this guy representing him.

I can understand that, for whatever reason, he wanted to break the ice with the jury, but that one sure fell flat.

As a recovering joke teller, here's how I would have tried it:

Ladies and gentleman of the jury, we've been asking you a lot of questions here, but I have just one more.
(pause}

What do you call a dog with no legs?
(pause while it sinks in an wait until they start looking at you for the answer....then shrug)

Doesn't matter.
It won't come anyway.
(pause for reaction)

And that, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, is what the prosecution's case against my client is.

Can't promise that it would work, but if it did work, it would really work.
It's that kind of a joke.

I'm not a litigator, and know next to nothing about criminal law. But - I have no idea what that idiot must have been thinking to offer up a lame joke when his client is on trial for murder, facing a loooong sentence. IMNVHO, Zimmerman never had a chance in this deal anyway. Who owned the gun? Who was the pursuer after being warned off? Who got out of his car? Who is dead? But there are some arguments that could have re-framed the story into one more favorable to Zimmerman. Maybe pick up somebody on the jury who has a personal fear of young black guys in hoodies, whatever. That "joke" didn't help. Zimmerman is doomed. And, IMNVHO, rightly so.

Hoo-boy. Judge is letting in Zimmerman's previous bunch of calls to the cops...

Also on Wednesday, Judge Debra Nelson ruled that jurors in the second-degree murder trial will be allowed to hear phone calls Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, made to a Sanford Police non-emergency line in the months prior the shooting. The calls were placed between August 2011 and February 2012.
