Type O Negative's cover of "Summer Breeze":

This song brings on the high school nostalgia hard.

I got to see them twice before Peter Steele died. The first time they were playing with Celtic Frost. I never thought I'd get to see those guys live either! It was a pretty awesome show aside from the part when this fat redneck gothic looking woman tried to molest me.

Everybody and their brother (or sister) has likely covered Man of
Constant Sorrow
. The one I recall best is Rod Stewart's early
1970s version. Bradley and Rodney on the RMP or something like
that. :?

Iron Hearse - Rocktopus:

An octopus that comes out of the sea to rock.

They have some free download codes on their facebook page for their newest album if anyone is feeling it. The new album only costs ~5 USD to download.

What's the difference between death metal and "doomrock"?
There's a plethora of genres and sub-genres of metal, anything you can possibly think of. Bands just make them up as they go. There really ought to be some international body of metal experts to govern the creation of genres. Perhaps this job could be delegated to the UN.

Death metal typically features growling vocals. There's a bunch of death metal sub-genre's as well, like Melodic-Death (In Flames: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llOmqi6gKQo), Doom-Death, etc. A good example of Death Metal is Obituary:

Circle of Tyrants (Celtic Frost cover): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUQ74-0i5GQ
Final Thoughts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJOnEJ-tQl0

Doom Metal usually features tuned down, heavy guitars, slower riffing, more prominent bass, clean vocals.

Doom Metal bands:
1) Candlemass (my girlfriend gives me endless shit for liking these guys): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3uvf0cn0jo
2) Saint Vitus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S28P-Vbl2lU

Stoner-Doom. One genre I really enjoy:
- Sleep's "Holy Mountain" (One of the best albums ever in my opinion) -
1) Dragonaut - A song about riding a dragon to Mars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJtPmIJstpE#
2) Aquarian - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_0X6r64Ko4
3) From Beyond - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3ORzWqSqws

Electric Wizard:
1) Return Trip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9MTscBE ... EBC619A438
2) Torquemada '71: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPJNq7SZ1ME
3) Saturnine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXvPwOsu6L0

Doom-Rock: Another made-up genre. A dash of doom (low tuned, heavy guitars/riffing) with a rock base?

IKEA is that friendly shop where you get cheap furniture from the inside of a giant, unending warehouse. Black metal is the kind of music that sounds like someone screaming while trapped inside a burning church. They each possess a fervent fan base. And to tell you the truth, the names of the furniture in IKEA sound a lot like the names of black metal bands. Consider this quiz an educational way to learn the difference between the two. It doesn’t matter if you know who Burzum is or if you’ve ever sat in a Preben chair – it’s time to have some kvlt fun. Death to false furniture!

The link is a bit misleading. To be fair, none of those bands are even death metal. They're all black metal. So you win on a technicality.

I used to be in a band called 1023 Megabytes. We never did get around to our first Gig.

One of my favorite newer metal bands. Man this band is awesome:

Beastwars:

The song "Ruins" is definitely one of the coolest songs off the album. There's no youtube videos for it, unfortunately, so check out their band camp page.

Only tolerable song on Sepultura's last barely tolerable album.

Thanks, whenever I hear that song I will now forever sing along with it in my head as "Boots, snowy boots".

I never listen to barely tolerable stuff. It hurts my head. Might I suggest "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones; an apropos anthem for our times, again.

The best part about black metal is you can never tell which bands are serious and which ones aren't. Black metal is a parody of itself. It all began when a bunch of Norwegian metal-heads took English metal band Venom's over-the-top satanic act a bit too seriously. Thus was born black metal.
