San Francisco Plane Crash

Unread post by Mr.B »

I cannot believe how crass and utterly ignorant some people can be. Some immature idiot at NTSB must have thought that something as
disastrous as a plane crash is something to poke fun at. He should be black-balled from any further employment......

I think the guy they're throwing under the bus is an "intern." Probably meets the definition of "immature idiot." But the guy from the station who contacted them wasn't exactly the quickest on the uptake, either. I feel sorry for the news reader, though. Like the old "page somebody" kid jokes.

If you don't mind a little racism with your humor.

(But what do you expect from a Fox affiliate?)

In Texas, every joke has a little racism in it.
Besides, it not the names that are hilarious, it's that those nimrods actually fell for it.

LOL - This is Solar's take on the Fox News affiliate's blunder:
Bottom line, libs are all about emotion, critical thinking is not something you can teach an adult lib, so they rely on the only tool the have, Emotion, "FEELINGS" and to them , that's all that matters, how they "Feel" about something.

Asiana Airlines is considering legal action against Oakland's KTVU television and the National Transportation Safety Board.
This, after a summer intern at the NTSB mistakenly confirmed "inaccurate and offensive" names as those of the four pilots of Flight 214 that crashed last week in San Francisco.
The bogus names that phonetically spelled out phrases such as "Something Wrong" and "We Too Low" were read during KTVU's noon broadcast Friday.

Asiana Airlines says it will proceed with its planned lawsuit against an Oakland, California, television station -- but it's not going to pursue legal action against the National Transportation Safety Board.
Over the weekend, the Korean airlines had said it would sue both entities after an intern at the NTSB mistakenly confirmed "inaccurate and offensive" names as those of the pilots of ill-fated Flight 214.
The bogus names that phonetically spelled out phrases such as "Something Wrong" and "We Too Low" were read during KTVU's noon broadcast on Friday. The airline called the report "demeaning" and said it was "reviewing possible legal action."

Monday morning, the airline seemed to have a partial change of heart.

Airline spokesman Na Chul-hee said Asiana has retained a U.S. law firm to file a defamation claim against the TV station. But, he said, the company didn't have plans to file a separate suit against the NTSB.
"After a legal review, the company decided to file a law suit against the network because it was their report that resulted in damaging the company's image," he said.

Some lawyer seeking a big pay-day has jumped on this like a duck on a Junebug. I'm waiting to see them prove intent, however careless KTVU was in not following up on their info and being on the receiving end of a big-time dupe. Damaged their reputation....? You gotta be kiddin' me! Over three-quarters of this country would be embroiled in lawsuits if everyone who got ridiculed for someone trashing their name if this is allowed to progress.

Some twit with half a brain at NTSB made a joke out of a plane crash that tragically claimed three lives; there's the intent, but NTSB isn't being sued
despite their knowing who the idiot was...?

Maybe we could limit it to only those whose name has been trashed or ridiculed on a TV station by a news reporter. How's that? I think it would be way less than "three quarters of this country."

I don't know anything about the suit or whether it has merit, but even you would probably agree that a TV news program has a greater responsibility and thus liability than a couple of guys sitting around making their eyes slant and claiming to be "Long Dong." But even those guys (real case) got their employer into problem over discrimination and harassment.

Boy you really changed your tune once you realized it was a Fox affiliate. From outrage in your first post to "meh, what's the big deal?" in this one. Too funny.

What has KTVU being a Fox affiliate got to do with anything? I said KTVU was careless in verifying their information that they received from NTSB; they
had cajones enough to admit it. My "outrage" is directed at the idiot at NTSB for his sick humor; who should be the one the lawsuit addresses.

What's with this personal vendetta you have against me anyway? What's wrong with you?

I personally don't find this surprising at all; our country has been torturing people and snatching them off the streets in foreign countries and holding them without charges or trial for over ten years. This is what that type of action results in; an insensitivity to others that makes us enemies and the cycle feeds on itself. It's tragic, really.

Personal vendetta? What a paranoid comment. Between you, homer, 62, and Vrede I'm beginning to think this place should be called the Funny Farm.

You have the issue ass backwards. Someone at the Fox station made up the names and called NTSB for confirmation who denied that they would release such info. The Fox producer called back again and an intern answered and said, "yep" giggle giggle "those are the real names."

Where in the world did you come up with that conclusion?
To quote you: "Please provide a link or be man enough to admit you made that up".

How very Vrede like of you. I asked you to provide a link when you falsely accused me of something, and you then hemmed and hawed and pretended that if I just scrolled back I'd find something I never actually said, before finally admitting you had lied. You on the other hand have created a thread about a widely published event that you apparently have no understanding of but you expect me to do your homework for you. So since you're too intellectually lazy to follow up I offer the following for your edification:
The National Transportation Safety Board apologizes for inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed as those of the pilots of Asiana flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6.

Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet [aka Fox affiliate WTVU], a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft.

The NTSB does not release or confirm the names of crewmembers or people involved in transportation accidents to the media. We work hard to ensure that only appropriate factual information regarding an investigation is released and deeply regret today's incident.

Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated.
