So I spent most of this week in NYC, and no matter what TV channel you picked, you get mayoral ads. You get Weiner sitting on the 'stoop where he grew up" complaining that he thought voters would be more interested in their future than in his past. You get Quinn talking about what she's done for the city. You get an anti-ad for somebody (I forget whom) saying "he's not Giuliani - not even close!" Then you get the analysis of the black vote, divided between di Blasio and Thompson, and then you get di Blasio's ads that are upfront, taglined "the Progressive Candidate for Mayor" and where he advocates "taxing the wealthy for pre-school and elementary" and "setting up a single payer plan and re-opening our neighborhood hospitals"
Proud Liberal - and.... leading - comfortably.
Outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg finally broke his silence on the campaign to succeed him, saying in an interview published Saturday that he believes Democratic mayoral frontrunner Bill de Blasio has run a “racist” campaign based on “class warfare.”...
At a campaign stop on Saturday, de Blasio rejected Bloomberg’s comments.
“It’s obviously inappropriate, and I am surprised to hear him say it,” de Blasio said, according to the New York Daily News . “I think people feel something good about this family so I don’t understand what the mayor is saying.”
His rivals—former Comptroller Bill Thompson and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn—also defended de Blasio and his family, both calling the mayor’s comments inappropriate.
“I don’t think the mayor should make these comments,” Quinn said Saturday...
Something tells me that the last minute comments by a victor in the class war, one who has just been smacked down by the courts for his racist 'stop and frisk' policy and who is even immediately disowned by his target's opponents, won't have the desired effect.
Yeah, I generally like Bloomberg, but that was a disappointing comment. Sounds like an already bitter loser.
de Blasio's at 40.1% with 96% reporting. Close, but it looks like he might make it without a runoff. Weiner's toast. Already conceded with 4-something percent. Still, more than 30,000 (thirty THOUSAND) people voted for the weiner.
