NJ Gov. Christie drops gay marriage appeal

Fourteen states (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington), the District of Columbia, several counties in New Mexico, and six Native American tribal jurisdictions.

Can't quite decide about Christie. I can't shake the suspicion that he is, in reality, a closeted realist/centrist with fiscally conservative ideals, trying to represent a state full of diverse folks. But his apparent unwillingness to publically tell the teabagger klan to fugg off won't let me make the leap completely. I'll be watching him.

I think he's a more realistic guy than he sometimes plays on TV, but in NJ he could certainly afford to tell the teabagger terrorists to fugg off. Look at last week's Senate results. Booker beat Lonagan over the head with a teabag, as did di Blasio to Lhota. And the crowd goes wild. Christie is playing to the rubes in hopes of national office as a Republican. He's not playing to NJ. Thing is, he could probably get elected as a Democrat easier than a Republican, even with conservative fiscal views. Unless he can be the one to bring the real Republicans back to power in the party and dump the teabaggers into a concrete pit in Newark.

I can see him being nominated- possibly- but it's highly dependent on which GOP is doing the nominating; the full-blown batshit teatards or less fringe elements. I think loss was inevitable. Done better, or worse? Is Batman a transvestite? Who knows? My whole point was to highlight the sort of crazies who think Huntman's brains and credentials are unsuitable for a presidential bid, while in the previous campaign they found Palin's tits and gun fervor to be right on the money. Those were not Goldwater or Buckley conservatives; Buckley would be sneered out of town by the teaklan as an effete, educated intellectual.

There's no way Huntsman would have done better than Palin. Cons were already leery of McCain for being a RINO. Huntsman would have just been more of the same without the eye candy. Obama would have won 60 to 40 if they would have had Huntsman instead of Palin.
