Great - and Not So Great - Apps
Best grocery shopping app - Grocery IQ
Best gas shopping - Gas Buddy, but YP has gas also, along with other destinations and services.
Interstate travel - iExit - shows everything at every exit on interstates, plus rest areas, etc.
Moviefone - what's playing wherever you are, schedules, and trailers
theScore - up to the minute scores on whatever sports you're interested in
HandyScanner - scan, send with text or email, file, or print
KeyRing - keep all those "loyalty cards" in one place, not in your wallet
There's more I like, but I'd be interest in favorites of others.

I checked out the KeyRings app....oh gee whiz, they couldn't find iTunes on my computer...darn.
That's because that was the first program that I deleted when I first installed my PC. I dunno why they think that because someone buys a new computer, it was bought to download and listen to music....

That may be a different KeyRing, Mr.B. I don't think the one I use would be loaded on to, or work on, a PC. It's totally mobile.

iTunes is a terrible program. I bought an iPod not too long ago and was at first disappointed that I'd have to use that heap of garbage, then I discovered media-monkey: http://www.mediamonkey.com/ . It's simple, has a generic, straight to the point, interface, and you can use it to sync music to an iPod. I know you said you don't listen to music on your PC, but for anyone out there that does that has an extensive music library, media monkey is a pretty good alternative. Of course, you can't really top WinAmp for a bare-bones audio program. Hopefully whoever owns the rights to it will make it open-source since it's apparently been discontinued.Mr.B wrote:I checked out the KeyRings app....oh gee whiz, they couldn't find iTunes on my computer...darn.

And, if you need to get your ID3 tags sorted out like I did way back when, I highly suggest TagScanner: http://www.xdlab.ru/en/. It's by far the best ID3 tag editor I've found. You can also do this through media monkey which helps immensely if you need to batch process a bunch of files simultaneously.
You aren't doing it wrong if no one knows what you are doing.

The only ones I use are Sleep Machine, iTunes, Pandora, Tunein, TV Gude and the Apple TV remote app. I have a lot of others but never use them.

I pretty much live on my mobile, and on a list of my most frequent uses, using it as a phone wouldn't even be in the top five. So I'm always on the lookout for good useful apps.

Yeah, I know. I just wanted to check it out to see what it was. First thing it did was tell me it couldn't find iTunes in my programs.O Really wrote: "That may be a different KeyRing, Mr.B. I don't think the one I use would be loaded on to, or work on, a PC. It's totally mobile."

Well, if it's the one I use, it wouldn't have any reason to find iTunes. All it does is give you an electronic version of reward and ID cards. You can scan your CVS card, for example, and KeyRing creates a version that you show at the store on your mobile. If you only use one or two store cards, it probably isn't worth it, but if you use a CVS card, an Ingle's card, an Ace card, a Harris Teeter card, an AAA card, yada, it starts to pack your wallet or keychain.Mr.B wrote:Yeah, I know. IP Cam Viewer - connects to and views my PTZ IP cameras

I like WeatherBug for weather, but the Teamviewer looks pretty cool. Is it better than GotoMyPC?

Teamviewer is free to use for an individual and no features are blocked.. GoToMyPC is $10/month.. LogMeIn is also subscription based with a limited feature free version.O Really wrote:I like WeatherBug for weather, but the Teamviewer looks pretty cool. Is it better than GotoMyPC?
There are other ways to remote in some more secure than others .. VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection then RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) or it's iOS equivalent .. VNC (Virtual Network Computing) ..
I imagine there are others but I like Teamviewer because I can say to a friend or family member "Load and Run Teamviewer then tell me your ID and Password" and I can connect to assist them within minutes..

Re: Great - and Not So Great - Apps
I've used GoToMyPC for a couple of years or so, and have found it reliable and simple. Is Teamviewer a host/client type setup? My primary use is to access my office machine from a laptop, tablet, or my mobile. Maybe I'll just download it and try it, but the website is a bit vague on how it actually works.

I loaded Teamviewer. Took a few minutes to get the settings right, but it works great so far. Thanks much!
