The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Sure, but good on her for declaring that the rightwing Christians went too far in interpreting that choice. We don't get to speculate beyond her actual words any more than they do.
Where did she declare that? She only clarified that it wasn't just the one performance she had a problem with. She certainly isn't a victim of being exploited by anyone.

As usual you'll see it the way you want to Vrede, but she ain't no victim. She's an instigator.

I'm willing to give her the BoTD, but if she's as worldly and experienced as she seems, she simply cannot have been surprised by anything she saw. She may not have singled out any one act or performance, but she knew damn well she wasn't going to a Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert. At best, she couldn't resist a religious, snarky tweet, which was in turn pounced upon by the usual fundicongelical cadre of usual offense-hungry suspects. I must give a few style points for her soft rebuttal, but still harbor a suspicion that she played to the press.

That Satan statue debacle that was on everyone's minds a while back got me thinking...

At many of the places I've worked at, employees have decorated their work stations with religious items - Crosses, statues of whatever gods they worship, bible quotes, etc.

What if I was a member of the Church of Satan or a witch or wizard or something and decided to do the same to my work area? What if I wanted to display pentagrams and satan statues all over my work area, and came to work wearing pentagram necklaces?

I would never do this because it's just not something I'd do, and I already know what would happen anyway. Someone would get offended (probably one of our evangelical types), complain to HR, which probably knows they can't force me to take it down because it's my religion (or maybe they can, I don't know), and a new rule would be put in place where no one could display anything personal at their work stations. I'd ruin things for everyone. That's why I wouldn't do it.

Surely someone somewhere has to have done something like this.

Only a complete loon could first argue that snake handling shows faith, and then the survivors argue that dying from a bite is a blessing...

Nothing wrong with snake handling. It's straight out of the Good Book.: :?

And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any
deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
(Mark 16:17-18)

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power
of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)

It would seem pastor Coots' faith was just not strong enough. I have every expectation that someone with greater faith will soon take up this very serpent and thereby demonstrate a somewhat stronger faith. ok

Only way to rationalize it and be consistent with the faith.

Looks like I was right; they're planning to bring out the beast this Sunday, handle / fondle it, and hope / pray for the best. I guess. I wish I could be there.

I've seen that before, except the girl was blonde. It's sad that's intended to be funny; but I'm sure it's a true example of today's lack of teachings.
It's OK to teach homosexuality and their "loving relationships", but it's not OK to teach that there is more to religion than worshipping an unseen entity.

Says who? Where is that written? It's a false equivalency, anyhow.

Nuts. Fruitloops. Doofuses.
Maybe the son was going to grow up and be a homosexual... and well, god dealt with it.

He was accused; it was never proven; just as your b.s. link proves nothing.....but does prove it's nothing more than atheistic ramblings.

My GOD is where He's always been.....sorry that yours moved.

Well then, touche! He was still a murderer and a pedophile, so at least you've got that going for ya.

However, I take his own words as proof:

In 1615, James fell out with Carr. In a letter James complained, among other matters, that Carr had been "creeping back and withdrawing yourself from lying in my chamber, notwithstanding my many hundred times earnest soliciting you to the contrary" and that he rebuked James "more sharply and bitterly than ever my master Buchanan durst do".[11]

Of course, now you'll hehaw about the word "lying" and then I'll have to point out the bible uses the same word, but you'll still convince yourself it somehow means something different.
