Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It's not a strawman. Pick any other group you like. Can Wal-Mart deny service to someone because the primary stockholders have a religious belief that the potential customer is unworthy for whatever reason? Can they deny service to non-Christians? To non-citizens? To non-whites? If the primary stockholders of Wal-Mart were Jewish, could they refuse to sell to the Goyim?

Yeah, book banning always works out so well, especially among young adults.

"Legislators said they were concerned that students reading the books were being subjected to only one view." LOL, it's SC where you can't throw a rock without hitting a Baptist church.

Once again, one of the things that makes NC tolerable is that we always have SC to compare it to.
Oh no, philosophy departments beware, looks like German Philosopher Frederich Nietzsche's book, The Gay Science , could become prohibited material, despite it having nothing to do with homosexuality.

The Nazis picked items out of context and forced them into their narrative. Water it down for consumption by the masses and you're left with propaganda.

Just read Arizona is trying to pass a bill that allows business owners to deny service to gay people on religious grounds.

This could be a bit tricky. How do you know if someone is gay? I've met people in the past I thought were 100% gay based on the way they talked and acted, but turned out to be straight, married, and had kids. Seems like a lot of them were of the overly religious variety, so maybe they were gay at some point or maybe they're secretly gay and trying to suppress it?

What if someone just acts the part of your typical flamboyant gay guy but in reality is straight?

What if Pat and Terry decide to order a cake to announce their engagement?

It's an attempt to keep the courts out of cases where "gays" demand that a business perform a special service for them specifically aimed at their orientation when the business owner feels that his religious beliefs would be compromised ; i.e., making them a cake celebrating a "gay" wedding, or a photographer shooting photos under the same circumstances. But of course, business owners have no rights; according to the liberal agenda.

I'm still waiting, Mr.B - can Wal-Mart refuse service to a Muslim because the majority stockholders are Christian and believe being Muslim "ain't natcheral?"

And if a couple goes into a cake store and says "we'd like one like that one on the shelf" and then says, "we'd like the inscription to be "Happy Life Pat and Stacey" and we'd like a couple of those in-stock figurines on the top of the cake, then exactly what is the "special service" they're asking for. Oh yeah, that would be one extra female plastic figurine. (face palm)

No doubt some of those business owners probably simply hate gays and that's why they want to refuse service, but I think it's also probable that some business owners truly feel they need to refuse service on religious grounds, given the context that their product is going to be used. They may feel that by creating a wedding cake to be used at a gay wedding they are condoning that ceremony, which their religion explicitly forbids. For those of us who aren't religious, it may sound ridiculous (its just a cake!), but if religion constitutes the very core of your existence and guides every aspect of your day to day life, I could see this being a problem as they may feel it's a direct affront to their God well within their means to control. I think some religious people are honest when they say "Hate the sin, not the sinner.", but of course you can never tell the true motivation behind someones actions.

I'm not saying they should be allowed to deny service, I'm trying to understand both sides of the equation.

I saw on ABC news tonight that Uganda has "denied service" to gay folks in a big way.....two years for first timers, life for repeat offenders, and prosecution of anyone who knowingly does not report gays to the authorities. I suspect Ted Nugent has been hunting there recently, but I could be wrong.

I suppose they could if they really wanted to, but by the appearance of some of the trash, and I do mean trash, that you see in the "People of Walmart" photos, they're not about to bite the dollar that feeds them. But you know good and well that you're grasping at straws and using an absurd comparison.

"And if a couple goes into a cake store and says "we'd like one like that one on the shelf" and then says, "we'd like the inscription to be "Happy Life Pat and Stacey" and we'd like a couple of those in-stock figurines on the top of the cake, then exactly what is the "special service" they're asking for. Oh yeah, that would be one extra female plastic figurine." Image
Again, you're being redundant. If the cake is "like that one on the shelf", the baker should be able to politely tell the "couple" that they can buy the cake, but he doesn't wish to add an inscription like they want. If they want to buy figurines, they can put them on the cake themselves. If that doesn't appease them, they can go elsewhere to buy a cake. The "special service" would be decorating a cake especially for their occasion......Was that so hard to figure out? Image

If somebody refused to sell me a service because I mentioned I'm a Christian, do you think I would hang around and bitch with them? Or, I could take the liberal's approach and scream discrimination and hire the Christian Law Association to bring a lawsuit against them........

Spot on, JTA. Many Christian business owners who go out on a limb (and a prayer) to establish their business, ask God to bless their endeavors and dedicate their business to Him. A successful business means added income to their church which in turn uses the funds to support missions such as local food banks, homeless and abused shelters, etc.

A business dedicated to God simply cannot condone accepting money from sources that go against what God sees as an abomination.

While I'm in this thread, let me ask this.
Whether any of you believe in Creationism or Evolution.....why do you think a Creator, or a natural process of evolution, would create or cause to evolve, a male and female of each species? You think maybe there was a reason for that? Even in hermaphroditic species, there is still a means of reproduction, whereas a male of any species cannot conceive and give birth. (I know about sea horses) Therefore homosexuality is a result of the curse of sin.

I don't know what you might do, but I'd certainly support your scream of discrimination (which it would be) and the ACLU would also be happy to help you. Discrimination against you is as despicable (and illegal) as discrimination against anyone else. Why would you accept it and just say "oh well."?

I wouldn't ask the ACLU for a dog biscuit if I was starving.

Why would I, or should I scream "discrimination"? I would simply be doing what those "gay" people are doing....vying for attention.

It's so much easier to walk away and shop elsewhere without making a spectacle of them or myself. I would be a better person for it.

I guess a good test of the business owners intentions would be to see whether or not they would sell a plain old birthday cake to a gay person as opposed to a wedding cake that's to be used as part of a gay marriage.
