The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I used to live near Andersonville, but I only went there once or
twice As I recall, it really looks like a large cemetery, at least
it did then. Anyhow.

Some things never change. 8-)

There is also a lot of resource material available for those who want
to know more about the subject. It must have been horrid to spend
July and August in southern Georgia in those conditions.

Nah man. I never was really into Motly Crue. Plus it's on a Monday, which is a school night for me. I gotta work the next day :( . How about you?

No, but some of the best concerts I've been to have been - at least in theory - the last tour. The Who in Toronto, then another last with "The Kids Are Alright" tour several years later. Tina Turner before she left for Switzerland or wherever, Eagles last and then the end of "Hell Freezes Over."

I once saw the Allman Brothers Band, with both brothers present. They were second billed to Goose Creek Symphony in Johnson City, TN. This was probably 1970 or 71. It's kind of a blur.

Oh, also Crosby, Stills, and Nash in Oakland CA about 1977 or 78...another blur.

I remember going to see Pink Floyd just after The Dark Side of the Moon
had come out. The stage show was pretty amateur hour with a "flying saucer"
coming down to the stage on a wire, though the music was fine. It did have
the feel of a just before they hit it big concert.

It's been a while since I've been to a concert. One of the last was Burning Spear.

I'm sure they had a lot more money to spend a year later too.
That album really put them on a whole different level. I wish
I remembered more about the show. I think they might have
played the whole of Meddle also. Great trippy song.

Yep. But I happened to be totally straight for that
particular concert. It was just a very long time ago. :)

I might have already posted this one. If so, I apologize for repeating it.
David Sedaris doing Billie Holliday singing the Oscar Meyer jingle or as
it is also known, Strange Meat.

I suppose you have to give him some credit for
sheer chutzpah, or whatever its Irish equivalent is. :?

He did take the Rasta out of the Melodians' original lyrics,
substituting Lord for King Alpha (Haile Selassie), though
in Psalms, it is the Lord, so I guess everybody wins.

The only good thing about this band is this music video with that giant-ass Texan in a cowboy hat that barely moves the whole damn music video singing about how pissed off he is. This music video would've been better if it showed him flipping over picnic tables and throwing buckets at people. 5/10 just because of the lead singer.

Be sure to view that in the larger size, BTW.

Are we off the hook for Celine Dion yet?
Last chance to watch this video.

Techdirt: Commander Hadfield's Amazing Cover Of David Bowie's Space Oddity Disappears Today, Thanks To Copyright
In our post, we noted that while the copyright issues were complicated, thankfully, it didn't really matter "because after a bunch of back and forth negotiations, they got all the permissions they needed directly from David Bowie." Except, as we find out today, that's not fully true. Because Commander Hadfield posted on Twitter this morning that today is the last day for the video online, because they only had a license to use it for one year. As I write, the video is still online, so watch it soon.
