Well, yes. Isn't it obvious?

The largest Christian denomination in my country supports same-sex marriage. So do others; even the Quakers support same-sex marriage. And yet undeniably, the Catholic Church is vehemently against same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage and calls them evil.

Likewise, apparently God changes his mind on a denomination by denomination basis. Denominations that didn't support it, now do. And the other way 'round; the Catholic Church supported same-sex unions for a thousand years, with a ceremony much like marriage, until apparently God changed his mind around 1500AD. The Mormon church, back when Mitt Romney was preaching, preached that blacks were accursed and couldn't be church leaders. He telexed them a revelation changing this in the 1970s. God taught that slavery was peachy-keen, from Biblical instructions on the proper way to beat a slave to death to the "Curse of Ham" justification common in churches much more recently. Apparently he's changed his mind on this too.

As far as the Republican (or Democratic) Party is concerned, I could give two twigs what they think or announce from their soapboxes; I follow no one's dictates or ideologies other than my own and that of my Lord and Savior. If there is no God, I've lost; if there is, woe to all who don't believe.

If there is a god, chances are you've lost anyway: There's a lot of different religions out there. There are many denominations even within Christianity, many of them contradicting each other on what God demands.

Virtually all of modern Christianity bares little resemblance to what Christ taught - before it gradually evolved into a separate religion from Judaism over the next century. And before most Christian gospels were suppressed in the 3rd century.

What if the Mormons were right? With if the Muslims were right? With if the Jews were right? The pre-Judaism Baalists? The Gnostics? Eastern Christianity? The Jehovah's Witnesses? 3rd century Christians who disagreed about which Gospels were canon?

If there is a God, the chances that you believe in the right one and follow the right rules are virtually nil.

Last I heard, there's more folks adhering to a religion other than Christianity than do. Who's to say who is right? What difference will it make? Is this really the end? Each of those believe in God as the Creator of Life....what sets them apart are "doctrines"; i.e., who wrote what and when as determined by their "denomination".

Agreed that much of the wrangling and tussling over such is silly and foolish; even in the eyes of believing Christians.

I'm guessing not all of these meet Mr.B's definition of "real" Christian. What I'd like to know, Mr.B, is what is your best guesstimate of the percentage of those 2.18 billion people who are "real" Christians. I'm guessing you could lop out some of them simply by denomination? Or could one be a "real" Christian even though s/he generally attended a church not considered "real"? Give it a shot - I'd be interested in your opinion.

2.18 billion, that's a lot of individuals to look at. Many Christians in the past had
no problem with slavery and then segregation, and I'm sure they considered
themselves Christians. The "real" Christian is a great dodge. Anytime one does
something disagreeable, one just says he isn't a "real" Christian. Should work
with Muslims too. Those violent Muslim jihadists. Don't worry, they're not "real"
Muslims.

I'm getting a kick out of watching various Christian denominations try to catch up
with the secular world, which is, for the most part, ahead of them. Very entertaining.
