Well, yes. Isn't it obvious?O Really wrote:Yes, but these people "prayed for years." I'm guessing Catholics pray, too? You suppose God gives out different answers by denomination? What a joker S/He must be.
The largest Christian denomination in my country supports same-sex marriage. So do others; even the Quakers support same-sex marriage. And yet undeniably, the Catholic Church is vehemently against same-sex relationships and same-sex marriage and calls them evil.
Likewise, apparently God changes his mind on a denomination by denomination basis. Denominations that didn't support it, now do. And the other way 'round; the Catholic Church supported same-sex unions for a thousand years, with a ceremony much like marriage, until apparently God changed his mind around 1500AD. The Mormon church, back when Mitt Romney was preaching, preached that blacks were accursed and couldn't be church leaders. He telexed them a revelation changing this in the 1970s. God taught that slavery was peachy-keen, from Biblical instructions on the proper way to beat a slave to death to the "Curse of Ham" justification common in churches much more recently. Apparently he's changed his mind on this too.
The point still stands: The world's largest die-hard anti-gay organization (OK, in the modern era), the Catholic Church, is also notorious world-wide for its pedophiles.

What have you lost? If there is a God and it's the Christian God, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that evil creature and it appears mostly evil people will be in heaven. Good luck.Mr.B wrote:

Serious question though, what have you lost?

If there is a god, chances are you've lost anyway: There's a lot of different religions out there. There are many denominations even within Christianity, many of them contradicting each other on what God demands.Mr.B wrote:If there is no God, I've lost; if there is, woe to all who don't believe.
Virtually all of modern Christianity bares little resemblance to what Christ taught - before it gradually evolved into a separate religion from Judaism over the next century. And before most Christian gospels were suppressed in the 3rd century.
What if the Mormons were right? With if the Muslims were right? With if the Jews were right? The pre-Judaism Baalists? The Gnostics? Eastern Christianity? The Jehovah's Witnesses? 3rd century Christians who disagreed about which Gospels were canon?
If there is a God, the chances that you believe in the right one and follow the right rules are virtually nil.

Last I heard, there's more folks adhering to a religion other than Christianity than do. Who's to say who is right? What difference will it make? Is this really the end? Can we manage to construct more war and famine and general mayhem in the righteous cloak of our "religion?" Here's the answers to the questions......nobody, none, maybe, yes. I thought this was the homophobic thread. I will go and pray that it is so. ok

Each of those believe in God as the Creator of Life....what sets them apart are "doctrines"; i.e., who wrote what and when as determined by their "denomination".rstrong wrote: "What if the Mormons were right? Agreed that much of the wrangling and tussling over such is silly and foolish; even in the eyes of believing Christians.
That's why one should not set his/her eyes on things of this world, but to keep focused on God.
What have I lost?......My hope.

Well. That certainly explains why the Bible and Koran and Talmud instruct followers to treat those of other religions as equals. Why those holy books patiently explain why there's no problem - no sir, none at all - with followers converting to a different religion. And why Europe's different Christian denominations have never fought.

Uh-oh.....a reversal of policy happened! The Gospel According to Vrede now proclaims WV to be a bigoted, homophobic organization, and has fallen out of love with same. Opps!O Really wrote: "Uh oh. "Stearns said the World Vision board had prayed for years about how to handle the issue as Christian denominations took different stands on recognizing same-sex relationships." Apparently the answer was "stop being a homophobe about this..."
"Gay" Christians? "Christians" in a same-sex marriage? The aid group sent a letter to supporters saying the board had made a mistake and was returning to its policy requiring celibacy outside of marriage "and faithfulness within the Bible covenant of marriage between a man and a woman."

But it doesn't, and they don't. Their policies are none of my business or my authority to change; why make it yours?

The largest Christian denomination in the country here, the United Church, supports and performs same-sex marriages. Just like they do in your country, as do the Quakers, Lutherans and Presbyterians and Episcopal church and others.
Christ had nothing to say on the subject. And as you've made clear, Old Testament rules have no bearing on Christianity.

According to Pew Research, there are about 2.18 billion people in the world (about 32% of the total population) who classify themselves as "Christian." I'm guessing not all of these meet Mr.B's definition of "real" Christian. What I'd like to know, Mr.B, is what is your best guesstimate of the percentage of those 2.18 billion people who are "real" Christians. I'm guessing you could lop out some of them simply by denomination? Or could one be a "real" Christian even though s/he generally attended a church not considered "real"? Give it a shot - I'd be interested in your opinion.

Could be, but I think it's a fair question of him. He's the one who first stated there were different classes of Christians, some of whom weren't "real." He has identified some already that he deems "unreal," so I'd just like to get the overall global summary.Vrede wrote:There are just 3 - Mr.B, his pastor and Mr.B's wife . . . except when she's nagging.O Really wrote:...What I'd like to know, Mr.B, is what is your best guesstimate of the percentage of those 2.18 billion people who are "real" Christians...

Marriage - What is the purpose of marriage according to the state? What benefits does the state derive from recognizing married couples?

2.18 billion, that's a lot of individuals to look at. Many Christians in the past had
no problem with slavery and then segregation, and I'm sure they considered
themselves Christians. The "real" Christian is a great dodge. Anytime one does
something disagreeable, one just says he isn't a "real" Christian. Should work
with Muslims too. Those violent Muslim jihadists. Don't worry, they're not "real"
Muslims.
I'm getting a kick out of watching various Christian denominations try to catch up
with the secular world, which is, for the most part, ahead of them. Very entertaining.
You can practically see them sweating bullets that they will be left behind and not
that kind of left behind.

I'd wager he takes it as a "mean" and "vile" comment for even asking. Of course that's just to dodge the logic bomb he'd have to reply with.

That's the great thing about Christianity. You can be the worst of the worst,
but if you sincerely repent of your actions and believe in Christ you can punch
your ticket to Heaven. Mysterious ways.

Well, sure. Even the Nazis had military chaplains to assure the troops that they were doing the right thing and could be proud of their work. Nazi soldiers had the words "Gott mit uns" (God with us) on their belt buckles.
The regime was anti-Catholic at first, but that was solved in 1933 by the Reichskonkordat between the Holy See and Nazi Germany.

I would trust the Mr.B's of the world along with myself before I would trust you or any cocksucking faggot to lead a group of boys. Your science shit, polls, and studies are just opinionated garbage to make the authors feel better about denying their own fantasies and tendencies.
