I just see no point in arguing with you. The Bible is what it is. We have a choice to believe it, shun it, or ridicule it.rstrong wrote: "You declare same-sex relationships to be evil on Old Testament grounds, and hours later declare the Old Testament irrelevant when it's inconvenience to your argument."
You've made your choices, I've made mine. I wasn't the one who wrote that homosexuality is an abomination; I merely said that I believe it.
Just because the 10 Commandments is OT Law, doesn't mean it is now OK to kill someone; whereas the petty cherry-pickings you point out are no longer laws to be adhered to. LINK
Common sense dictates choices. Again I say, same genders were not created (or evolved, whichever you prefer) to copulate with each other....if that makes me a bigot, so be it. I'm happy with that, and regardless how much you et al attempt to shame my beliefs, so be it...it's something I can live with.

Re: The Religion Thread
I don't recall all the details but I've seen some things on the net where
Christians accept some of the rules of the OT and others they are
apparently free to ignore. I don't know how these folks make the
distinctions, but they do. Maybe the totally primitive ones can be
disregarded and the semi-primitive ones accepted.
Mr. B's avatar ain't getting any sex--gay, straight, or otherwise, except
maybe if it sneaks up behind a very docile farm animal.

Re: The Religion Thread
Not trying to get all Hegelian dialectic up in here, but sometimes secular society and religion come into conflict. When they do there's the bitching from both sides. What results from the conflict is a transformation of both. Both now become impregnated with new possibilities (for better or worse). This has happened from the get-go. I don't like the word progress because that insinuates things always go from bad to good which I don't think is always the case (depending on your perspective I guess). Things just change.Bungalow Bill wrote:I don't recall all the details but I've seen some things on the net where

This is why bemoaning the need to "get back to our roots" or whatever is pointless because it's not going to change anything. It's not possible. When people complain that society needs to get back to it's roots or whatever they're essentially pissing in the wind.
Once something sprouts into possibility, then becomes actuality, you're stuck with it unless some kind of catastrophic transformation of society takes place (or you are North Korea). People have been complaining about decadence since the beginning.

The avatar is a stark reminder that our lives on Earth are made up of Four Seasons just as our climate.
I don't know who authored this piece, but I hope you enjoy it.......
AND THEN IT'S WINTER
You know. . . Time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.
But, here it is... The winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is...my friends and I are retired and getting gray...we move slower and I see older people now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!
And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it’s over. A new adventure will begin!
Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.
So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

Sometimes the 8-5, Monday - Friday rinse and repeat schedule really burns you out fast.
Now if the weather man would stop ruining my Saturdays (one of the few days I get to soak up some sunshine) with less than satisfactory weather, things would grand.

Well, hold on there, pilgrim....most textbooks about electricity have the word "theory" in their title. There's still a lot about juice we don't really understand. I myself am an advocate of Tesla. He had some good "theories."JTA wrote:bannination wrote:Example of such bitching in progress:

Example: Everyone knows the old fable of Sir Isaac Newton being knocked in the head with an apple and later coming up with the theory of gravity. Here's the story they don't tell you in school.neoplacebo wrote:Well, hold on there, pilgrim....most textbooks about electricity have the word "theory" in their title. After a long night of consuming copious amounts of alcohol, Newton decided to call it a night and head home. As he was walking home with his boys he decided to stop and take a leak by an apple tree. Member in hand Newton passed out and collapsed headfirst onto an apple tree, causing apples to rain down upon his head. Newtons boys all laughed hysterically as did a fine lady Newton was trying to court. To save face Newton claimed gravity was at fault, not his drunken stupor. You see, ol' Newton was a stubborn sumbitch full of pride. He couldn't let this one slide, he had to keep up the lie. As time passed lie grew ever increasingly more elaborate. Thus was born the theory of gravity.

Re: The Religion Thread
Yep, there was no need for a Creation Museum a hundred years ago, because
just about everybody believed in the Biblical story. Science has shown a lot of
that story to be false, so now the religious react by creating a museum. They
even give a tip of the hat to science by trying to shoehorn the creation story
into a scientific form, however ridiculous.
Our roots are varied and, examined in detail, would lead to a lot of contra-
dictions and side streets. That's why it's a lot easier to keep it as simple
as possible. And there's just no way we're going back to an earlier era
in any meaningful way. 2014 can no more be like 1964 than 1964 could be
like 1914.

That's why I specified a docile farm animal, one that would just sit back
and take it.
Yeah, time does tend to move faster than we realize. I've never liked
the expression "youth is wasted on the young" because who would
want to be a totally mature adult at an early age and miss some of
fun and the lessons learned from one's early mistakes. Seems to take
some of the joy out of life. And, as another saying goes, old age usually
beats the alternative.

I'm reminded of the many times I've heard someone, including myself, say "If I could go back to age 25 knowing what I know today......"Bungalow Bill wrote: "Yeah, time does tend to move faster than we realize. I've often pondered that scenario, but then when I think back to the good times versus the bad times in my life, I'm just happy that I've made it as far as I have without any catastrophic illnesses, injuries, or incarceration, although everything's not been peachy keen or a bed of roses. Something bad might come along tomorrow, but I can say that I thank God that's He's allowed me to live as long I have....and yes, "old age does beats the alternative."

The archbishop of Atlanta is being forced to sell a $2.2 million mansion he bought using church funds. The bishop said he wanted the extra space because he was tired of only moving diagonally.
