Sure- brought as witnesses by the prosecution and the court refused a continuance so the defense could prepare and bring their own witnesses.

I researched that story and found holes all in it. It didn't say why the cop "viciously attacked" the girl.

I'm willing to bet her mouth and attitude had something to do with it.

Exactly what would a person need to say or exactly how would an attitude need to be expressed in order for a beating to be justified? Historically, cops expected people being arrested (or herded, or harassed) to be pretty foul about it and ignored pretty much any "attitude" or crude language as long as the culprit didn't hit them or pull a weapon. Apparently "mouth and attitude" is sufficient?

In 2009, Adrian Schoolcraft, a New York cop was abducted and placed in a psychiatric facility by his fellow officers for releasing recordings he made that showed quotas were leading to police abuses such as wrongful arrests.

Brooklynites who lived in the area patrolled by Schoolcraft reported that he was the only officer they knew, because he was the only one interested in conversing with them.

My pops asked me to pick him up a BB gun for one of my younger relatives when I go back up to NJ this summer.

Turns out the legislators of the great state of NJ in their infinite wisdom and championship of freedom have determined that BB-Guns are as deadly as AK-47's and 45 cal. pistols. I'm glad they figured this out because I had no idea this was the case. I always thought they were pretty good against aluminum cans and those little green army men you buy at toy stores, but not anything more than that. With this knowledge we could probably save a bunch of money and arm our troops with BB-guns instead of the more expensive variety that we do now.

Anyway, if you get busted with one you can possibly wind up in jail with a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in jail plus fines.

I'm too lazy to look up if this is true, but the biased as hell websites I read said this was the case, and needless to say that's enough to change my mind about bringing in a weapon of mass destruction with me to that state. If it were to sneak out and run amok around town one night while it's owner was out of town I would never be able to forgive myself.

In SC you have to show ID to buy a tube of BBs. The cashier @ Walmart couldn't say why.

So basically, translated from Lawyer to American, it sounds like this guy is telling me is I can go to NJ with a BB gun:

local kid in serious condition after being shot with a bb gun a few days ago

An afternoon of summer fun ended in tragedy for a 13-year old Foley boy. Caleb Thomas was shot in the head by a BB gun.

Caleb's younger brother, Isaiah, says he accidentally shot him.

Caleb was shot from about 30 feet away. The BB struck Caleb just above the eye and lodged in his brain. Caleb is in a coma at Sacred Heart Hospital.

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says no criminal charges will be filed in the incident.

The family only has limited, government access health insurance and the boy's mother will likely be out of work for several weeks as she cares for her injured son.

Of course not - the "opps" defense again. (Rhetorical) Why is the "opps" defense allowed so easily for gun "accidents"? Where was an adult? Who didn't teach the kid not to be pointing it at others? That's no "accident." It's negligence.

I don't know about the "showing off" but I'm pretty sure some of them do it because they can. Fortunately, a lot of places are instructing their cops not to engage in high-speed chase for anything but actual dangerous criminals. A tourist was killed in Asheville a week or so ago while being chased by cops - for a traffic infraction of some sort, maybe speeding.
