This land is your land This land is my land

From California to the New York island;

From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters

This land was made for you and Me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,

I saw above me that endless skyway:

I saw below me that golden valley:

This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps

To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;

And all around me a voice was sounding:

This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,

And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,

As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:

This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking I saw a sign there

And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."

But on the other side it didn't say nothing,

That side was made for you and me.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,

By the relief office I seen my people;

As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking

Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,

As I go walking that freedom highway;

Nobody living can ever make me turn back

This land was made for you and me.

No wonder those Filipinos hate the U.S. now.....they thought you were singing "Your Land is Our Land".

Good thing you didn't attempt the National Anthem; you probably would have sounded like Roseanne Barr!

Or maybe we can adopt Neil Young's "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World."

There's colors on the street
Red, white, and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes

But there's a warnin' sign
On the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
We'd be better off dead

Don't feel like Satan
But to them I am
So I try to forget it
Any way I can

Keep on rockin' in the free world
repeat
repeat
repeat

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can

Now she puts the kid away
And she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life
And what she's done to it

There's one more kid
That will never go to school
Never get to fall in love
Never get to be cool

Keep on rockin' in the free world
repeat
repeat
repeat

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler
Machine gun hand

We got department stores
And toilet paper
Got Styrofoam boxes
For the ozone layer

Got a man of the people
Says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn
Got roads to drive

Keep on rockin' in the free world
repeat
repeat
repeat

Well, I guess that "Helpless" isn't about Winnipeg since it's in Manitoba province. I wonder what town he was thinking of; "There is a town in north Ontario; dream, comfort, memory, despair. In my mind I still need a place to go; all my changes were there." Hmmmm, on second thought, maybe he was talking about Winnipeg; "There is a town in north Manitoba" just don't sound as good. :shifty:

That's a reference to Omemee, Ontario, where he lived before moving to Winnipeg. It's now considered to be in southern Ontario.

There can't be much to rhyme, there. I'd go with North Ontario, too.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

Well, I'll give it a shot; there is a town in north Omemee; the women there only make me peepee; I only have peace in my teepee; I only see what i want to see. All the bullshit surrounds me. It all makes want to be an apogee. What we thought was real is only fantasy. Ok, I see what you mean.
