People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

In Canada he was a nobody. It was an American scout for an American record company that decided to make him a big American star. He's YOUR creation.

You also gave us John Candy and I think Rick Moranis, so you're forgiven for your part :>

Jessie died a couple of months ago, but I didn't get around to listening to the old vinyl albums until today - damn if I didn't start crying
thanks Canada - you saved a lot of good people and Jessie expressed the patriotism and love of country of those that had to leave so well

I think I hear a noisy old John Deere
In a field specked with dirty cotton lint
And below the field runs a little shady creek
And there you'll find the cool green leaves of mint.
Mississippi, you're on my mind
Mississippi, you're on my mind
Oh, Mississippi, you're on my mind.

Life is much too short for some folks
For other folks it just drags on
Some folks like the taste of smokey whiskey
Others figure tea is too strong
I'm the type of guy who likes it right down the middle
I don't like all this bouncing back and forth
Me, I want to live with my feet in Dixie
And my head in the cool blue North

Oh, my, but you have a pretty face
Why, you favor a girl that I knew
An' I imagine that she's still in Tennessee, boy
And by God, I should be there too
'Cause I've a sadness that's too sad to be true
But I left Tennessee, in a hurry, dear, now
In the same way that I'm leaving you
Because love is mainly just memories, you see
And everyone has got him a few
So when I'm gone, I'll be glad to love you
At the brand new Tennessee Waltz
You were literally waltzing on air
At the brand new, oh, Tennessee Waltz
It's just no telling who will be there
thanks Canada - you saved a lot of good people and Jessie expressed the patriotism and love of country of those that had to leave so well

If I may speak for the country, You're Welcome! We got some really good new residents and citizens out of that deal, and roughly half of them stayed. Draft dodgers were usually college-educated and politically leftist, fit in well and left a good impression.billy.pilgrim wrote:thanks Canada - you saved a lot of good people and Jessie expressed the patriotism and love of country of those that had to leave so well

thanks to President Carter, Jessie came back, but as he expressed in many of his songs, he loved Canada

Again, we don't have to atone for Bieber. In Canada he was a nobody. It was an American scout for an American record company that decided to make him a big American star. Re: Happy Canada Day!
Nope. He's wealthy, and has the backing of a large corporation. He gets probation, and the record company will assign a lackey to take the fall for any future oppsies.
Granted, he's still facing charges in Miami authorities for driving under the influence and driving without a valid license. And charges in Toronto for assaulting a limo driver. That's going to cost the company some big lawyer fees to deliver threats that in the case of a conviction, they'll keep appealing until it costs the cities a fortune - unless the cities settle for a slap on the wrist.
