I'm glad the dad kicked his ass.
It will get him warmed up for his time in the clink with Bertha and friends and others who don't like child molesters.
I'm also glad the dad got no charges from taking well-justified action.
I'm most glad, however, that the dad didn't have a firearm because if he had shot the molester he might not have walked away without significant legal inconvenience - even assuming he was eventually cleared.

His defense was that he too was molested as a child....I suppose that means he had a right to be molesting that kid..?!

Ah, you get the opportunity to learn the difference between explaining and justifying. The molester isn't but 18 himself. If - if - he has lived a life of molestation, how would he know otherwise? Sometimes it's pretty amazing how people can live in the same world as others and still not learn about anything past their own little self-imposed limits.
