The daughter, having been kicked out or just leaving, is what he was ultimately skeered of. He was skeered of not being in control, so he took control. Next case. I figure he'd be better off if he'd shot himself in the top of his head.

Saw a story today from Tucson AZ where a 9 year old girl killed her 39 year old shooting instructor using an Uzi submachine gun. The story said the recoil of the weapon made the girl's arm swing upward out of control and he was shot in the head. Some Uzis can fire 1,700 rounds a minute. Opps.

I'd call it gross negligence on the part of the "instructor" who was already punished for his actions, and on the part of the parents for letting their 9-year old fire an Uzi, and on the part of the Last Stop range, who would allow the 9-year old on the range. Hell, let everybody sue everybody else. Just don't say "oh well - another 'accident' "

It's something you'd expect to hear about at some remote mobile home sitting on concrete blocks in South Carolina, hard by the interstate in the middle of the night with no warning after a spirited bout of drinking and weapon fondling. I think Tim Moffitt would pronounce it an accident as well. But it takes ones to know one; or that's what they say.

Let's see how many issues come too mind - a gun that's illegal for most people to own...a nine-year old kid with (apparently) minimal shooting experience...parents that think there is some value in letting the kid shoot...shooting range management that has an 8-year old minimum for shooting... an "instructor" that thinks it's a good idea to let the kid shoot and stands at least partially in front of a 9-year old with an Uzi on full auto...legislatures that are so owned by the NRA that they wouldn't even have laws with a minimum age to fire auto weapons...

Yeah, probably. But I'd still like somebody to explain how a handgun, either a Glock without a safety or another type with a safety - handled and carried without negligence - could just go off by itself. And explain how it's not outrageously negligent for a teacher to keep her handgun with one in the chamber and the safety off - which is the only way it could be fired at all. But even with one in the chamber and the safety off, how did the gun manage to pull its own trigger? Oh yeah, it would have had to be in a "cocked" position. I wonder what training this idiot has had? Standard "fire 50 shots and answer 25 obvious questions" to get a CCP?

Perhaps there should be another classification for carrying a weapon, concealed or otherwise. Something like "holder is only legally allowed to possess firearms when alone." Or maybe some sort of Barney Fife type of thing where your ammo and weapon must be carried separate from each other. In the first case, you're left to your own devices; in the second case, you at least have extra time to consider what you're about to do.

There is...open carry. I wear my weapon openly when I feel the need to carry it. No license needed in NC......just don't cover it up with your shirt-tail.

Growing up in Northeast TN and venturing now and again into southwest Virginia, I used to see just about every other pickup truck with at least one rifle hanging in the back window on a rack. I never see this anymore. Is it now illegal or are these long guns being sawed off and stored elsewhere in the vehicle? I just want to know because I'm considering getting a pickup truck and some shotguns for the back window.
