From Medical News Today 29 November 2013:Both the Recovery Act and the Affordable Care Act have made major investments in the network of community health centers, which is creating more opportunities for HIV care delivery. This is helping to expand the health care service delivery capacity available to all Americans. Technical assistance efforts are helping health centers not currently providing HIV care develop the capacity to do so, especially in minority communities, including through the National Center for HIV Care in Minority Communities which is expanding HIV/AIDS care and treatment within highly impacted communities of color. Through its intensive training and technical assistance program — supported by the Secretary’s Minority AIDS Initiative Fund — the Center is developing the organizational capacity of health centers that are not directly funded through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to deliver comprehensive HIV care.
Another effort underway to expand the capacity of health centers to deliver culturally competent care to populations heavily impacted by HIV is the National LGBT Health Education Center funded by HRSA. This center is developing and delivering free training and technical assistance to health centers to better equip them with the capacity to address the health care needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities — including HIV prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
