The difference, Mr.B, is that the only characterization or image you can manage, or are willing to manage, about homosexuals is them having sex. (Which is also in your imagination since you don't know for sure). You don't envision them as accountants, engineers, admin assistants, community volunteers, landscapers... people who lead an ordinary life not unlike yours. You can (or are willing to) envision them only in bed, probably doing pretty much the same things hetero couples do. You paint your view of their entire life based on your version of their sex life. It's the same as if you heaped derision on somebody because they weren't able to get it up.

I'm not trying to change your mind. I'm just trying to point out the difference and why you get accused of being "obsessed" with gay sex. I don't think you're obsessed about gay sex. I do think sex is the filter through which you view their entire lives.

The largest majority of the population still don't view homosexuality as normal; it's seen as a lustful, dirty perversion. Therefore, when two of the same gender, seen together holding hands, kissing, etc., the natural reaction is one of disgust and loathing.

I don't deny that times and attitudes are changing; it would be foolish to think they aren't; that doesn't mean that attitudes are going to change overnight, or even within the next 10-15 years. But as long as homosexuals flaunt their perversion publicly in the form of scantily-clad parades, screaming that they "have to be accepted or we'll sue you", and forums like this one are filled with arrogant, insulting, name-calling, condescending jerks, people are still going to have prejudices against them. (Those actions and attitudes sure aren't going anywhere to change any minds)

I don't say I'm not aware of revulsion against people who are different. I've was on the front lines of civil rights for years and saw that same revulsion directed toward black people, hispanics, union workers, and yes, gay people. I'm just saying that was never a part of my family or those who have been a part of "my world" over the years. I may have mentioned that a couple of years ago I visited the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham AL and was pleasantly surprised to find my dad's face in a picture of protesters being sprayed by the B'ham fire department. I knew he had been there, and at Selma, but didn't know there was a picture. Anyway, with that in your family, you don't spend a lot of time cultivating friends who experience revulsion at the thought or sight of people different from themselves.
