Blacks refer to their best friends as "homies"...why is it 'racist' if a white speaks of it? Why would it be considered 'derogatory' to speak of it?neoplacebo wrote: "I doubt if he will since the term "hominys" is one of my own invention and has never been used to refer to anyone in a derogatory way."

Re: The LEO thread
"Homies" is just an urban slang term that blacks use to refer to one another. When a white person uses that term, it generally is meant as an insult to blacks or to ridicule them; it's the same as the N word; blacks typically use it to refer to one another, but if whites use it it's not good. This principle applies to white folks using the word "homies" the same way. Hope this provides some clarity for you.Mr.B wrote:Blacks refer to their best friends as "homies"...why is it 'racist' if a white speaks of it? Good grief....cry me a river! Cops are out-gunned in almost any burg in the US and y'all wimps whine because they try to catch up. Granted, many cops are gung-ho, but the biggest reason they acquire Military Weapons is because they are in a war, and their job is to protect the public, including you, from idiots who decide that they are invincible, and go on a shooting spree. (when cornered, they usually kill themselves....so much for invincibility)
Wilson wasn't using an AK47, tank, cannon, armored vehicle when he shot that street punk. Had you been in his shoes, you probably would have done the same thing if you were getting your ass kicked and he was trying to get your gun.

12 rounds couldn't stop the fleeing unarmed man, six shots hitting him after he stopped a distance away and turned around. Clearly Wilson needed "an AK47, tank, cannon, armored vehicle." Heck, even school security forces got grenade launchers. (Really.)

Mr. I-Got-all-The-Facts? Even with the unreliable witnesses' claims dismissed, we have enough facts to judge.Mr.B wrote:rstrong: So what would you have done differently if you were the cop caught up in that, Mr. I-Got-all-The-Facts? Vrede had no reply.
If he were beating me through the car window, I probably would have shot him just like Wilson did.
Once Brown ran away I would have gotten out of the car to pursue, just like Wilson did.
I would NOT have fired more shots at him as he was running away. At that point I would not be in danger, and Brown had not committed - let alone been convicted of - a death penalty crime.
I would NOT have fired six more rounds into him once he turned around. Even if you believe the claim that Brown was advancing back towards the officer, he was at a distance by that point. There was no need to execute him with six shots hitting him, the last to the head.
At no point would I have needed your "AK47, tank or cannon."

No...you're the liar. That was no answer. You are focusing on what you want to believe. The GJ's findings mean nothing to you, therefore you spit on the justice system. You're no better than the "credible witnesses" that lied to the cops about the events.
"What part of, "This stuff matters far more to me than what the facts of the one shooting are," was unclear to you? ..."
Nit-picking a word...it was still a mob of street-punks that went in and robbed the store, and the street punk that out-sized the store owner grabbed him by the throat. Yes, it's too bad Brown got killed; he should have been caught and sent to prison where he could prove just how tough he really was. Brown brave?![]()
The only time he was brave was when he had two or three more of his punk homies with him. I dare say he would have robbed that store by himself.
BTW....the store was mobbed and trashed again after his death....what word would you like placed in front of the word "mob"...?
Pick one that suits your little ol' bad condescending self.

"Homey" or "homies" has been around a long time, but I don't know how long. Back in the early 90's a character on "In Living Color" was "Homey the Clown." But it derived from "home boys" - so if anyone thinks it's appropriate to refer generically to black people as "homeies" maybe try using it in its original form and see the reaction you get.

Interesting. Blacks can call themselves and other Blacks 'nigger', 'homey', 'my home boy', 'm.f.', or whatever other choice of "derogatory" names they can come up with; but let a White call a Black any of those and "see the reaction you get". In some states, whites can even be brought up on charges, vilified in the media, or even the town they live in could be burned down.O Really wrote:"Homey" or "homies" has been around a long time, but I don't know how long. This is the type of justice that Vrede and his ilk cheerlead for....."my interest is far more in the abysmal conditions before the shooting and the horrendous police and "justice" system response afterwards."
Michael Brown got his just dues.....it's too bad the circumstances screwed it up.

It's not necessarily the term, it's the historical and current usage. You might, among friends, call yourself a "hillbilly" and may even be proud to do so. The same term, applied to you by a New Yorker would likely be taken as derisive and offensive. You may call your sister stupid, but would attempt to kick my butt if I agreed. If you've got a reference as to which states have made it illegal just to call someone an offensive name, I'd be really interested in where they are. Usually the "brought up on charges" part only comes in if a crime is committed in conjunction with the name calling, as in, "I'm gonna go shoot me a nigger (fag, raghead, Jew, whatever).Mr.B wrote:[

As to villified in the media - sure, and rightfully so. You have a right to say it without being arrested; you don't have a right to be protected from the rest of society.

Re: The LEO thread
Exactly; 250 years of historical maltreatment of blacks in this country.....blacks refer to themselves sometimes with terms whites typically used to belittle them . In effect, they are making fun of their tragic history of being less than equal citizens. Blacks also typically refer to one another as "dog" but it would not be wise for Mr. B to greet a young black man by saying "wassup, dog?" This should be easy to understand.O Really wrote:It's not necessarily the term, it's the historical and current usage. I just heard that the NYC grand jury did not return an indictment against the cop who choked out the black guy who was selling single "untaxed" cigarettes on the street a few months ago.

Yup. Officer Daniel Pantaleo used an illegal chokehold, on camera, to kill a man. The *coroner* called Eric Garner's death a homicide. And the grand jury decided that there's no probable cause to arrest him and hold a trial.neoplacebo wrote:I just heard that the NYC grand jury did not return an indictment against the cop who choked out the black guy who was selling single "untaxed" cigarettes on the street a few months ago.
I'm glad they're planning to make cops wear cameras. Once we have video footage of them killing people, we'll be able to indict th... um... er... We'll potentially have an EVEN BETTER view of the folks the cops kill before they get off scot-free with it.

The whole thing is just bullshit. The cigarettes the guy was selling had to have come from a pack of cigarettes that tax had already been paid on. So, actually no "crime" was committed. I seem to recall that our own American Revolution came about in large part to this very subject......taxes. This is an injustice on many levels.rstrong wrote:Yup. I'm no expert in law, and this probably didn't apply here, but there's always the possibility the dude bought the cigarettes out of state real cheap and was reselling them. We had some guy get busted back in NJ doing this. Delaware sells cigarettes real cheap, so everyone would make trips over there and stock up. This one guy got the idea to resell them in NJ and got busted. Not sure what happened. Probably wasn't choked to death though..neoplacebo wrote:The whole thing is just bullshit. The first time my wife came to NJ she asked me why it smelled so bad. Literally right when you cross the bridge into Salem county it smells like sulphur farts because of the marsh.
