The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

You lie. Let's see if this makes sense to you, or maybe you can find another way to dishonestly twist the meaning of what I said ...... :wtf:

I, (the bigot, homophobe, whatever) will not bow down to accept homosexuality as natural just because the rest of the world is going to sit back and say, "Oh well",
every one else is accepting it, so I guess it's the right thing to do.

I said nothing whatsoever that I wanted "gays" to bow down and accept anything...'dubmass'! Try to make sense, and be more honest.

Question for Mr.B - answer personally or theoretically, I don't care, but it's a real question:

How did you get to be such an authority/expert on the Bible and its interpretations? You sometimes answer questions with quotes from the Bible, which could or could not apply depending on how one interprets it, but if I'm going to go with one person's interpretation out of all the many that have occurred in the past couple thousand years, I'd like to know I've picked the right one. How do you know yours is? How do you know which parts apply to us today, and which ones don't? Have you studied the writings of other theological experts over the years?

For example, you quoted from Revelation earlier in the thread - surely one of the most controversial books, with many different interpretations and theories - even going back to some question as to who wrote it and when. But even if one says, "yes, Mr.B is right on point with that one" there is room for further clarity. The quote includes "liars" as those who will burn in the fiery lake. Is there anywhere that "liar" is defined to exclude those who answer "no Dear, your butt doesn't look fat" or "Santa Claus is real and goes down everybody's chimney"? By any definition, those are lies, but it doesn't seem likely one would burn in the lake over it. Probably if that type of lie counts, every human ever will clog up the lake like algae. So what is the line between the lies that get you sent to the lake and the ones that don't? I thought maybe the bad ones are those that cause harm to others or dishonestly bring personal gain, but then that puts the "butt" answer back in the lake.

But apparently you are comfortable in your expertise in these issues so as to be confident that you are right after all the many years of conflicting opinion and interpretation. I just wondered how you achieved expert status.

I "wants" what, dubmass? You're so full of it, it's unbelievable. I'm not even going to comment on your stupid supposition; who are you trying to impress anyway?

"You can quit whining about having to "bow down to accept homosexuality as natural", though. It's your gay obsessed insistence that law and policy reflect your hateful sect of Christianity that's the problem, no one cares what your feewings about gays are."
Oh, my "gay obsessed insistence"...? How silly of me to forget that. Dubmass. It looks as though I've got to go back to Raleigh and beg and plead before the legislators again to change law and policy because the Great Vrede insists that my wishes haven't been carried out as I demanded the first time. dubmass

Never thought of that. And undoubtedly an uncircumcised johnson, too. He must have told the olden Jews "Opps, I meant to clean up that thing, and forgot, so you'll just have to do it for newborn boys."

I always thought it was just a clever way to distinguish us from the beasts of the field or something. I once had the idea of opening a clinic to restore circumcised men to their original glory but could not get financing; plus the fortune teller told me it was a doomed plan and would result in no good.

I don't know which beasts of the field you have in mind, but I'm pretty sure circumcision isn't necessary to distinguish most of us from horses, for example.

I was thinking about dogs and cats mostly.

You have been charged $1.25 for the one-time use of the name of our Lord and Savior, Supply Side Jesus. If you think this charge was in error, or would like the charges reversed, please deposit $5000 to activate a Mandatory Arbitration Bond account. Failure to do so in the next 30 second implies consent of charge, and forfeiture all future arbitration challenges to Supply Side Jesus LLR. ..... Be Blessed, consumer.

Even a comic turns out to be above your reading comprehension. That's just sad.

Yup, unusually and delightfully warm out.

As I've said, we're shaking our pom-poms for global warming.

There's belief in a religion's invisible friend, and then there's belief in the principles taught by the religion. Whether or not either of you like it, Vrede is a better Christian than you'll ever be, with a better understanding of the principles taught than you'll ever have.
