The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

You almost got it right....but then what do you really know about Jesus anyway, apart from your ridiculing...? you don't believe in Him.
There's belief in a religion's invisible friend, and then there's belief in the principles taught by the religion. Whether or not either of you like it, Vrede is a better Christian than you'll ever be, with a better understanding of the principles taught than you'll ever have.
I guess that includes youself as well???

So we're required to respond pro or con to every single post? I'd rather not, because it pisses you off if I don't and gives you the opportunity to belittle me and call me names. I've got to help keep your condescending ego up, you know.

Yes.

If you're a Christian - as in the New Testament and Christ - then you're a bloody awful one, full of hatred and hypocrisy and not the slightest understanding of Christ's message. And you've stated outright that the Old Testament has no place in Christianity. Not that you don't cherry-pick quotes from that too, when adapting the Bible to suit your beliefs.

Hope This Helps!

So my Biblical beliefs against homosexuality, sexual perversions, and other human deviations are "full of hatred and hypocrisy and not the slightest understanding of Christ's message"...?

Let's see...Christ said to love the brother; I've stated before I hate no one. Of course, according to you and your ilk, Christ said nothing about homosexuals...

As pointed out before, He said nothing about pedophilia or child porn either...is that to be construed that that type of behavior is acceptable ? ...and by it not being accepted means that those who don't accept it are "full of hatred and hypocrisy"?

If believing that sexual perversions are despicable, then I guess that I'm "a bloody awful Christian"......I'll own that.
"Full of hatred and hypocrisy"....hardly.

Since you are hell-bent on homosexuality being a natural trait, I found this article LINK that suggests that "Pedophilia is A Disorder, Not a Crime". I suppose then, that because homosexuality is a natural trait or disorder, eventually liberals will shriek for pedophilia to be on the human rights agenda? It wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Vrede wrote:"As pointed out before, "consent" has too many syllables for you."
You just answered my question that I posed to rstrong in the previous post above. By your answer, you advocate and cheerlead for legalization of child porn and pedophilia simply by changing the consent laws. A pervert, according to you, should be lawfully allowed to approach a small child and offer him/her money or candy to go with him...if that child says yes, that's giving consent and the pervert is free and clear. And your shrieking for consent means that any one-brain celled trash-bag would be legally allowed to enter into a child's bedroom window at night and snatch the child, or sexually molest him/her right there....as long as the child said yes....

So as soon as you have nothing more to get up on a soapbox and rave about, I assume this will be your next agenda?

So I take it you want to repeal any age of consent laws Mr. B? You seem to be the only one talking about it... so....

Interesting, another whine about being victims shot down.
When I was in Sunday School back in the late 60s, I read about all that (somewhere- don't remember where) and brought it up one Sunday after the annual, obligatory Taking Christ Out of Christmas sermon. Sunday School people went to my parents and urged that I be re-educated. My dad never told me I was wrong, but told me to not bring it up in Sunday School till I was older. My walk away from religion had begun.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

More rantings from the religion of peace, Christianity: City Council Meeting Opens with Invocation to Satan & Allah - Mayor and Commissioners Walk Out

The comments section..... wow..... I hope all these people go on a watch list.
Someone should punch this jerk out in the parking lot! More than happy to help. What a bag of garbage (that includes the fools who stuck around for this mockery)! You can bet if he trashed the US military they would have ALL walked out. Soldiers, sailors, marines and airman don't take insults well (what a shock!). On the other hand, our side puts up with too much and the opposition knows it. We're far too peaceful-like a negligent parent. Christianity needs to get some teeth. Fast.Best thing in the world for bullies is a person who will fight back. They never expect it-slobs like this are counting on indifference. Let's surprise them next time!
This guy should be dragged by a truck till he's dead we have to start standing up and make them notice that if they want to pray to Allah a satanic cult and all others go some where your not herd I'm getting sick over this shit these people make us all sick but they are mental cases they don't belong in a govt. meeting just take them tom the wood shed then let them go to the Middle East and let's watch how that works for them sorry to be so hatefull with these cult leaders but you tell me what they deserve NOTHING they will defently pay a big price they are worthless scum
I am infuriated that America, one nation under God, is being subjected to the paganism of today. Look to Obama, a Muslim, a race baiter, a divider of people, elected by some of you. Our military is dis honored under him and if you think he gives a damn about you you are very wrong. GOD help us.
Take the True Atheist out of your bull shit mother fucking deep shit. No ture Atheist beleives that bull shit ether. You son of bitch you are not fucking Atheist you are fucking devil worshiper and you should be put to death.
This is disturbing the peace...The Founders would have put him in shackles for being so anti-social, subhuman and against the Declaration...
The problem is that no one walked up and punched him in the nose.

That guy sounded really condescending.

Seems like the best thing to do for things like this would be to simply give everyone a moment of silence or something so they can pray (or not) to whatever deity they want to. BAM problem solved, everyone is happy.

Perhaps, I'd prefer they just get to business since they're on my dime. :) They can pray and have moments of silence on their own time.

Or - why not just start the damn meeting?
But no, it wouldn't make everyone happy because the (mostly) Christians think that because they have a 75% majority they should get to require the rest of us to listen to their religiosity at the start of government meetings. NASCAR races, too, but that's not government so there's nothing to be done about that.

Speaking of which, have you heard those NASCAR prayers? "Thank you Lord, for letting us attend this (sponsor name) event. We pray that (sponsor name) and (sponsor name) are blessed for making this wonderful event possible. We pray that all the drivers will be fast and drive safely for (sponsor name) and that the fans enjoy (sponsor name) beer and (sponsor name) barbecue."

That's probably an even better idea. What is the purpose of praying before a meeting anyway?

Why can't we do this at my job? I work with a bunch of Hindus and Muslims and some evangelical Christians too. If it's a particularly slow day this would help kill time if we had to pray to everyone's god, especially if we had to pray to the different dieties my Hindu pals believe in. I might not even have to work on days when I have meetings if this is enacted. I could quietly doze off in the corner or go maybe invest in a game boy to play like it's 1989 or something to pass the time. Just imagine the possibilities!

Tell them "Look people, we gotta get shit done today ok. How bout we all just pray before we come in to the meeting so we can get out of here quicker and go home and eat some pizza."

Man this reminds me of the last place I worked at. The owners were real religious, they were real cool though and treated us pretty good. But before our holiday parties we would all pray. We had a bunch of metal heads that worked there that were probably atheist. It was funny looking around seeing people smirk at each other while everyone had their heads bowed in prayer with their eyes closed. I'm not a religious guy either, and I'm never sure how to act in those situations. I usually just feel kind of awkward and do this half head bow kind of thing with my eyes still open looking around at others to see who else is doing the same.

... and watch nascar. ;)

Seriously though, the guy might have been acting a little jerky to prove the point, but those reactions definitely proved it. I don't care who they pray to, I'm not going to feel like I need to drag them behind my pickup till they die.

I was always tempted to not bow my head and close my eyes but worried that some devout Nazi would be taking notes, so I just went along with it. -0-?

They're not your "Biblical beliefs." They're your personal phobias and bigotry, for which you cherry-pick quotes from the Bible justify while ignoring or directly contradicting the rest.
Mr.B wrote:Let's see...Christ said to love the brother; I've stated before I hate no one.
...while constantly stating your hatred of them...
Mr.B wrote: Of course, according to you and your ilk, Christ said nothing about homosexuals...
Correct. But only YOU think that you should hate anyone who isn't explicitly endorsed. This goes against the Christian teaching of love and compassion for one's fellow human beings, and setting aside the hatred.
Mr.B wrote: As pointed out before, He said nothing about pedophilia or child porn either...is that to be construed that that type of behavior is acceptable ?
Of course not. Homosexuality between consenting adults harms no-one. Pedophilia DOES cause harm to children.

And since you insist on linking the two, it's important to point out that its religion and its priests that have earned a reputation - over and over and over in the last century alone - for a connection to pedophilia.

Those who have studied the issue have shown that there's no slippery slope from homosexuality to pedophilia. But there's clearly a slippery slope from religion to pogroms, ISIS, the Inquisition, 9/11, etc.
