The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

When I was working as an in-home service person, I encountered the very attitudes you just described, practically every day, and they weren't necessarily "nicely dressed middle-class church goers". In fact, the "church-goers" were the least of the hateful, disrespectful people I met, however they were the worst tippers. The worst people I met over the years were well-off or wealthy who looked down their noses at anyone who would dare to tell them their repairs were going to be costly, because you were there solely to rip them off, or they were miffed because they needed repairs, and the dealer who sold them their products singled them out to sell them something that would need repairs eventually.

I've been called a "lowly repair man" just to name a few. Some of the worst people with attitudes I've met over the years were from New Jersey, Michigan, and California...in that order. I've even been told that I would have to enter through the back door.

I have walked out of a few homes and told the homeowner that if he was so knowledgeable about his product and he didn't want a person of lower class in his home, he could repair it himself.

If I really wanted to pizzem off, I would tell them that until the Lord started making our products, I had job security.

My dad worked as a repair man and had the same experience as you. Well off people tended to be jerks. Not always of course.

In my experience working with the public in SC, the most deplorable demographic to work with were old southern white middle class people. Poor people were cool, most middle aged people were cool, but old middle class white people had what I can only describe as an attitude of immense entitlement. Not all of course.

My favorite demographic were Mexicans, all super cool and super chill people and very honest. When I worked at a gas station I would usually only turn the pumps on for Mexicans as they never ripped me off. Not once in all those years. It was mostly white people that stole gas.

OK, so if you said you don't believe this particular pastor would punch a kid - for whatever reasons you have, then fine. If you say (as you did) that you don't believe any pastor would punch a kid, then you're really not paying attention. There are many documented (and sometimes convicted) instances where pastors have done much worse. A cursory search shows that the "bad guy" percentage among pastors isn't any better than the "bad guy" percentage among accountants or even (gasp) lawyers.

Mr.B wrote:Look at the YT results; the videos are recorded in a straight shot that comes from an area directly opposite where the pastor's pulpit is located; not at an angle that shows it was shot from a pew. I still believe the video in this discussion is a fake.
He's Pastor Eric Dammann, the Senior Elder at the Bible Baptist Church in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. The New York Daily News has interviewed him.

It was obviously filmed from a camera on a tripod, not some cell user in a pew. The video comes from a good place to film the video, period. All it means is that someone ahead of time wanted the sermon filmed, as is common. This guy posts his sermons on Vimeo. Nothing in it suggests that it's fake.

But don't worry. Your pathetic denial didn't fool anyone. Or surprise anyone for that matter.

BTW, that took only a quick Google search. I *did* have to narrow it down a bit; my first search on "pastor hit kid" returned endless links about a Fayetteville North Carolina pastor in 2012 telling parents hit their kids to stop them from being gay, if they show any signs of effeminate behavior.

Well I'll be Dammanned, I was wrong, wasn't I? I too attempted a search but found the same old stuff that rstrong found. Wasn't really interested enough to waste my time on searching any further for an ass. Ok...so now I believe it, but it makes him no less of an idiotic ass.

I like how he claimed: "Again, I call it religion bashing. I don't believe any pastor would punch a kid."

Then after I mention having to filter out all the links to the North Carolina pastor telling parents hit their kids, he says "I too attempted a search but found the same old stuff that rstrong found." He already knew his claim was BS.

I think Seven Shits would be a good name for a Christian rock band; JTA would know if this would work......or maybe even Seven Deadly Shits. Their first hit song could be "Seven Shits of the Snowman" or maybe "Godda Shit" would also be a hit. Successfully mixing the music business with religion is tricky.

Seven Shits of the Snowman

That's an absolutely fantastic name for a song, and someone should make a band around that alone.

Getting back on topic, it doesn't sound like a good name for a Christian rock band.

Then again, I haven't heard the song titles yet.
