"Governor Romney has not worked at Bain Capital for over a decade, but for four years President Obama has been presiding over an economy that is creating too few jobs and sending more jobs overseas. Despite the President being invested in Sensata through his personal pension fund, and the government owning a major Sensata customer in GM, President Obama has not used his powers to help this situation in any way."-- Curt Cashour, Romney Campaign Spokesman.

It is the profitability of the plant that determines if management keeps a plant open.
For example GM & GE both put out target priced for parts. These are usually for coming budget years. If you do not meet the target price and another supplier will you will not be their primary supplier for that item. If your company has a history with them you will likely become the backup supplier.
Sometime a supplier will say we cannot meet that price for an individual part. But, will offer a bid on three different parts that combined will be the cheapest.
A search if the plant closed tells me the employees did not have their mind on making as many first quality parts as possible.

Yes that is for the entire company. This plant is a drag on the company.billy.pilgrim wrote:Fourth quarter 2011 net revenue was $453.4 million, an increase of 16.9% from the fourth quarter 2010 net revenue of $387.8 million.Tertius wrote:It is the profitability of the plant that determines if management keeps a plant open.

ST is doing a poor job in comparison to its peers with a Return on Assets, Return on Equity, and Revenues Per Employee of 3.67%, 11.99%, and $168,589.40 respectively. In particular the company is below average at generating revenues from employees, while only average at managing their owner's equity and at managing their resources compared to other companies in the Aerospace & Defense industry.
Over the past year the stock had bounced off a low of $25 pre share. However the bounce highs are getting lower each time. Investors (your retirement funds) are getting less and less optimistic ST will become as effective as other companies in the industry.

I don't think Romney or Bain has anything to do with this. Didn't Obama bail them out?
In another potential blow for the president's Ohio reelection campaign, Jeep, the rugged brand President Obama once said symbolized American freedom, is considering giving up on the United States and shifting production to China.
Such a move would crash the economy in towns like Toledo, Ohio, where Jeeps are made and supplied, and rob the community of the economic security they thought Obama's auto bailout assured them.
Obama is such a fan of Jeep that he included a picture of himself speaking at the Toledo plant in his newly released second term agenda binder. In his address to the plant in 2011, Obama said, "I just took a short tour of the plant and watched some of you putting the finishing touches on the Wrangler. Now, as somebody reminded, I need to call it the 'iconic' Wrangler. And that's appropriate because when you think about what Wrangler has always symbolized. It symbolized freedom, adventure, hitting the open road, never looking back."
Well it appears that the taxpayer bailed-out Chrysler is looking back and now considering cutting costs by shifting production of all Jeeps to China, which has a strong desire for Jeeps.
In a Bloomberg interview, Jeep's president said the automaker plans to restore Jeep production in China, suspended in 2009, and is considering making all Jeeps in China. "Fiat SpA, majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers' operations in the region," reported the business wire service.
