The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Yeah, could be. But the point is, there are ways to explain the "great flood" that don't require a pissed off god figure. Of course it didn't flood the entire "world" as we know the world to be now (round, etc.), but when you consider what they considered their "world" to be and consider further how stories grow over time as they are passed down through the collective consciousness, it's certainly explainable.

I'm thinking somebody (who may or may not have actually been named "Noah,") did a better job of preparing for potential flood than his neighbors. Maybe he had or built a boat. Probably he loaded his own animals into it. And he managed to survive. Next thing you know, it's a murkle

ain't it easy to see how tall tales and fables turn into religion for the ignorant unthinking people like bb

as you said, "of course it didn't flood the entire "world" ", but over half the republicon party seem to believe just what bb said earlier, that it was rain that flooded the entire earth and covered the mountains.
but typical bb runs away and can't explain the where it was that this 10 fold increase of the total water on earth receded to

run bb run

There's also Doggerland - the now submerged English Channel and North Sea. Time Team did a special on how it flooded rather quickly a little over 6000 years ago as the last ice age ended. Like with the Black Sea, there's a growing number of submerged archeological sites and settlements being found.

But you don't need stories of these times to be passed down to create flood mythology. Geologic uplift has left plenty of obvious marine fossils high above sea level.

That depends on the particular sect of the particular religion. (And in Mr.B's case, whatever mathematical formula he uses to decide what his beliefs are on a given day.)

Also income and education, much like the Catholic church supports birth control in western countries but damns it with hellfire in third world countries. Or how the Big Bang theory was proposed by Monseigneur Georges Henri Joseph Édouard Lemaître, a Belgian Jesuit priest, astronomer and professor of physics at the French section of the Catholic University of Leuven. The church has held scientific conferences on the subject, with Stephen Hawking and other scientists attending. The Pontifical Academy of Sciences has had many Nobel Prize winners as members. But go out into the third world, and church teaching on the subject is a tad.... different.

If I'm "dishonest" I'd sure like to meet someone in your little world that you deem to be honest.

"We hate sin by recognizing it for what it is, refusing to take part in it, and condemning it as contrary to God’s nature.
You left out advocating hateful discrimination in law and policy.
If the sin of homosexuality is "incorporated into (man's) law and policy", I see it for what it is, it's "contrary to God’s nature"; therefore I refuse to take part in it. That doesn't mean it's hate towards the individual, just their sin that you don't see anything wrong with.

Sin is to be hated, not excused or taken lightly. We love sinners by showing them respect (1 Peter 2:17),
Advocating hateful discrimination in law and policy is not respect. You lie, again.
La de dah; I lied again. You want some fries with that?

praying for them (1 Timothy 2:1), and witnessing to them of Christ. It is a true act of love to treat someone with respect and kindness even though you do not approve of his or her lifestyle or sinful choices.
When will you start?
Who says I don't?

There is no greater hate than advocating the denial of rights.
Yes there is

According to you, homosexual couples, unlike straight couples, lead a strictly platonic lifestyle.
You lie, as usual. Just one page back I posted:
Gay relationships are no more "carnal, deviated lust towards one another" than your straight relationships have been.

"My straight relationships"? Straight relationships do not involve men having sex with other men; or women with other women. That is carnal, deviated lust of the unnatural kind.

Once again, you see gays as solely sexual objects. Hmmm....I'm saying they are just as sexual or nonsexual as you, just gayly so.
So you are saying they're platonic. I see "gays" as "gays"...two of the same sex attracted to each other. Their sex life is obviously your business, you keep whining that others are obsessed with it.

Mention "gay" sex, and according to you, I'm fantasizing and obsessed. Well, I'm not obsessed, and I'm certainly not fantasizing; it's a subject you repeatedly toss around then raise hell when someone speaks against it.
As you just proved, all you can think about re gays is the sex they have.
No, you're the one whining that I think about the sex they have. Re-read the above line I wrote.

Of course Jesus showed compassion and love towards sinners. Despite what the Bible says, according to you, homosexuality is not a sin.
You lie, as usual. It's a biblical sin, in a few passages, that you cherry pick and obsess about. The lying you routinely do is condemned far more often in the Bible.
Anything spoken against homosexuality is a lie to you. You carry on like homosexuality is to be loved, cherished, and made a part of every household. As I said before, of course I "cherry-pick" passages from the Bible; they're not found on every page or in every chapter of every book.

I beg to differ and that is not hate towards the individual, rather it's a strong disagreement that the homosexual act is in itself perverse and abominable.
There you go again, obsessing about gay sex.
And you think that homosexuals are platonic and never indulge in the stuff....

That disagreement, to you is nothing more than that old worn old cry of 'bigotry' or 'homophobia'.
You qualify under all definitions of bigotry or homophobia. Don 't be such a pansy about admitting it.
Those two buzz words have become the whine about anyone who disapproves of homosexuality, regardless of the reason. I said some time ago that if I oppose homosexuality, then so be it if I'm a bigot or homophobe; then you turn around and accuse me of secretly being "gay"...  Sorry Bud, you wrong again.

...Of course, you don't believe in God, so all I've written is moot, but again, despite your disbelief, you sure like to throw Jesus in the mix when you're crying of bigotry, intolerance, and judgmentalism.
He said what he said, things repeated in hundreds of religions and philosophies. You hypocritically ignore all that in favor of the bigotry and homophobia that he never endorsed.
Again, you're full of male bovine excrement. In the past, you have insinuated that God is a bigot, woman-hater, etc. He said that man shall not lie with a man as he would with a woman....so in your little tiny mind, that makes Him a bigot. If I believe in what He said, then I'm a bigot....tough patooty. Get over it.

bb is still too ignorant of his cult beliefs to explain how rain increased the amount of water on the planet by more than ten times

or where it went when it receded

hanging onto the superstitions and tall tales of nomads and cave dwellers has to be the epitome of ignorance

You did redundantly fantasize that billy.pilgrim is a gay fairy, coward, and you obviously are too illiterate to know that "intercourse" doesn't just mean sex, stupid.
I didn't "fantasize" anything; that's one of your favorite twists. I implied that he could be.

So many of these discussions are about Mr.B prolonging a losing argument with the English language.
Yeah, I do....it also means the joining of two rivers; hence the naming of Intercourse, Pennsylvania. You lose.

"Editing" your posts??  Do you even know the definition of "editing" ? Pardon me, I shouldn't have asked that; it's obvious the way you post and your language, you ain't that swift on English.

Anyway, I'll help you out. I didn't edit. I was saying that what you posted was blah, blah, blah....blather. Editing is taking one or more of your quoted sentences and changing one or more words, while leaving a portion of it intact. Your welcome.

oh now bb, again resorting to made up word definitions

keep on changing my posts and keep on running away from questions, after all, what else can you do

was it your date line initiation that caused your obsession with gay men?
