Personally, I felt it was waste of time although some unknown info was brought out.

Sheriff Duncan explained beforehand that since the case was still under investigation, in all probability, he would be unable to answer many of the asked questions. It turned out that he couldn't answer most of the questions. My reaction was to wonder why air the "conference" anyway if he couldn't say anything!

One of my suspicions was confirmed, that Owens tried to burn the bodies; but not like I thought. He used a wood stove rather than an open burn.

Interesting. I wouldn't have known how to guess the majority and definitely would not have predicted the margin.

Just guessing - there are a lot who, like us, oppose the government killing its residents on general principles. Those can't just arbitrarily change their minds and say, "well, OK, let's just kill this one." Then there are those, such as myself, who don't really care if they do kill him, but don't want to see him being newsworthy for years to come. And there are those who probably look at the bigger picture as to whether killing him would make him a bigger martyr to the evil loonies. Add all those together in Massachusetts and I guess you get 62 percent.

Woman held in psychiatric ward after (correctly) saying Obama follows her on Twitter

Kam Brock's car was seized by the NYPD in a bogus drug bust (they found no drugs, seized it anyway) and then they arrested her because she got upset and took her to a mental hospital. She tried to tell the doc that she was a good person, and cited the (true) fact that Obama followed her on Twitter.

She was given an injection to knock her out, taken to a mental hospital, and held against her will until she recanted. She was diagnosed bipolar and was forcibly medicated and sent to group therapy. No one checked to see whether she was one of the president's 644,000 Twitter follows.

I don't have an opinion on whether she did it or not but, wow, what a screwed up criminal justice system.

Yeah, hard to tell if Amanda did it or not. Looks like her troubles in Italy are over. Maybe she should go to France on some sort of work study program.

I don't know, but I don't think she did it. At any rate, the prosecution didn't come close to proving it. Makes me really glad those Italian gendarmes back in the day were in a good mood and turned us over to the US Shore Patrol guys.

But I think he'll walk - they overcharged him. Shoulda been manslaughter or something they can prove. Murder is going to be difficult, given that he's a cop and all that.

I think the murder charge will stick. His video showed the cop dropping the taser next to the body after his claiming the deceased tried to take it from him. Kinda hard to take a taser while running with a gun aimed at your back.

This incident does point up several facts in an indisputable manner:
1. Cops will lie about what happened
2. Cop management doesn't care about the truth - only the story
3. Press is not (generally) willing to investigate unless shocked out of lethargy by, say, a vid.

If that sinks in, maybe every killing by cop will have to withstand at least a modicum of scrutiny before stamping "justified."

Only when the story is like this one. I wonder how interested they would be if the cop had been black and the perp black, or the perp white and the cop black, or the cop black and the perp white? All news stories I've seen on any media is instigating this into a racist issue. Only one news report I heard reported an unarmed man killed by a policeman, all others reported an unarmed black man shot by a white police officer. No matter the color, a man is a man and a woman is a woman, unless they ain't got sense enough to look down in their pants and see what their gender is.

I think the problem lies in the fact that more and more people are challenging the cops as if they dare them to do anything. When it goes too far, opps!

Of course lawyers lie - it's part of the job description. What's your point?

The cases where a white cop shoots a black guy do attract attention - maybe more so than if the evil-doer were white, but the issue doesn't always begin with the shooting itself. I read a study about racial issues in highway arrests (I'll try to find it an post link). For things like speeding, reckless driving, etc. where the offense is clean and the evidence documented, there seems to be no racial difference. A guy going 70 in a 50 is as likely to get stopped if he's white, black, or Hispanic. It's the other types of stops - the "investigatory" stops where the black guys get targeted. Like "broken taillight" "not signaling a lane change" "improper exhaust," etc. On many of those stops, the officer doesn't just write up the ticket or issue a warning, he wants to search the vehicle. No probably cause, just "because." Now Id say if I were a black guy that got stopped, I'd yassuh and nossuh myself out of whatever the issue was and call my lawyer, and I'd agree trying to attack a cop or even running isn't very wise. On the other hand, cops do bear the responsibility of maintaining control of the situation. That doesn't include shooting a guy - black, white, asian, whatever - in the back while he's trying to run away and - insofar as the cop knew - had committed no serious offense. And it's not like he couldn't have found him - dude left his car.

Getting the death penalty would be too light a sentence and too kind. Spending the rest of his natural life in the Supermax at Florence, Colorado would be pure hell on Earth. I would hate to be a young man his age (who has experienced freedom and fun-loving times) knowing I was going to spend the rest of my life locked up here:
