All these things are reasonable. As well as the anti-gay baker simply saying "I'm sorry, we're totally booked, but Heather's Cakes down the street is good and maybe you could try them." No probable problem. But did they say that? Noooooo! They said, in a state with a law against sexual orientation discrimination, "we're not going to bake you a cake because you're gay." Stepped on their own dicks. At fault for their own misery. Deserve the abuse they get.

Agreed that a different approach could have steered things in another direction...but in this scenario, telling them they're booked would be a lie, which would be just as bad as going against their religious convictions. Should being honest in their religious convictions be cause for them to "deserve the abuse they get?"

There's an idea, if you could make every business that caters to the public declare their theological preferences I wonder how many bible thumpers would change their tune or go bust!

Well, I don't think most business owners go out of their way to introduce their theology into the business. Those people we might refer to as "wise." There are a lot of ways to keep to ones own theology and run a business. For example, if you think gambling and drinking are sins, you don't have to open a bar or ABC store or sell lotto tickets. If you're a doctor and think abortion is murder, you don't have to do abortions. But whatever the business you pick, you have to offer the same products/services to everybody - even the infidels.

Apparently the shop is being killed on Yelp. Auto repair is a little different from cake or pizza retail, but it looks like he'll be road-kill. I read that some think the whole thing was a scheme to try to get crowd-funded like the pizza place, and it failed miserably.

Arming? I don't know. I'll check with the NRA and see if they are encouraging "gay militants" to carry firearms so as to bring about more peace, less crime, and more civility. I'm guessing, though, that the NRA has about the same interest in gays being armed as they do for African-Americans and Hispanics to be armed. Which from their propaganda is none.
