That's what I've been trying to tell JTA about beer. If you're going to blow your healthy diet on beer, at least drink some good beer and don't waste your muscles on Bud Lite. He also told me eating lots of seafood would put hair on my chest and back, which seemed to have worked, although I think that's more to do with genetics than seafood consumption.
But back to beer, I'll be real with you guys. I've slacked off on the bud lite. I save that for when I'm having people over and want something cheap to get a little tipsy off of. My go-to beers of late have been Yuengling, Budweiser, Blue Moon, and Dos Equis. Reasonably priced > Bud Lite.

Good place to start. Diligent effort on kettlebells will bring some pretty fast progress, though. I first started kettlebells a little under two years ago. Did 25 pounds until I got the form down, then 40 pounds for about 6 months. I do 50's and 70's now. One set of 10-15 with the 50's and two sets with the 70's. So JTA - how's it going with the kettlebells?
It was a good day at the gym today. Not intentionally, but I managed to destroy the self-esteem of a couple of guys 10 and 20 years younger than me. They were whining about how nothing gets easier or lighter as you get older and how hard they're working. They were wheezing with 230 on a bar to shrug and I loaded it to 320 and shrugged it 15. Told them if it did start to get easier they weren't working hard enough.

There are some advantages to a gym for someone who actually goes regularly. More equipment, making more varied workouts possible and reducing liklihood of boredom; people around to learn from or be inspiration; and, in your case, potential for meeting chicks working on their bodies and not interested in church. 
Try to find a gym that will let you go a few times before you join, or that has month-to-month memberships. They like to get the annual membership because the majority of people who join don't ever - or rarely - use the gym. I used to call them the "January people". They's show up and jam up the place right after making their New Year's resolutions and be gone before Feb 1. Wouldn't see them the rest of the year.

Kettle bell update:
It's been maybe a couple months since I've started working out with a kettle bell. I can definitely say my posture has improved a whole lot since I started doing the back exercises.

I've heard of the 5x5 plan. I think it's pretty good, but I like a little more variety. Also I automatically don't agree with anyone who says "only use free weights" or "only use machines." There's room for both, particularly when you get a few years on you and don't want to drop 230 on your chest or neck.

I agree. The reason I'm doing the 5x5 is because me and a friend are doing it together. I use free weights for curls, deadlifts, squats, lunges, farmer's walk, and sometimes shrugs. I use cables for triceps and side bends. I use a variety of stuff for abs. I use machines for chest and leg presses and lat pull-downs. I do dips and pull-ups for body-weight work. I also do a lot of balance work, because us geezers tend to lose balance skills. Current weights are: Curl 80 (or 35 dumbells), deadlift 250ish, chest press 230-250, shrug 320, leg press 300. Kettles, 70lb bell. Sometimes for, ummmm, "sport" I do the crossfit WOD "Cindy" http://www.crossfit.com/mt-archive2/008094.html
