Wingnutties out of control!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

If we could get that back today, we could get rid of the Republican majority in the legislature by getting rid of the mentally defective or feeble minded.
Who would be left? The Democrats would have been long gone!

Maybe, but the defectives aren't those who are Republican or Democratic with an understanding of what they're voting for. I don't think a wealthy guy is defective for voting Republican. The defectives are the ones who consistently vote against their own interests - and those are largely the ones who have elected Republican majorities in a lot of otherwise rational states.

Until they figured there was more money in duping folks out of money with Global warming. :lolno: :lolno:
* “By the year 2000, if present trends continue, we will be using up crude oil at such a rate…that there won’t be any more crude oil. You’ll drive up to the pump and say, `Fill ‘er up, buddy,’ and he’ll say, `I am very sorry, there isn’t any.’” - Kenneth Watt, Ecologist
* “The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.” - Kenneth Watt, Ecologist

So we're surprised that a guy engaging in futurism in a speech at Swarthmore, who is an emeritus profess of Evolution and Ecology at UC Davis, with a Ph.D. in zoology, and hasn't done enough to have a Wikipedia entry might be mistaken?

He's not somebody I would go to for climate forecasts, but deniers have very strange sources of information.

The actual quote:

"Another new study to be presented by US Navy researchers later this week, warns it could happen in as little as seven years."
- Al Gore, December 10th, 2007

That summer, the arctic ice had set a new record for smallest extent. For the first time in recorded history, the Northwest Passage opened to ships without the need of icebreakers.

Image

So....

a) It was the US Navy saying it, not Al Gore.

b) The trend line showed that yes, it indeed could happen.

c) That trend continued: A new record low was set in 2012. The six lowest seasonal minimum ice extents in the satellite record have all occurred between 2007 and 2012.

d) Like any trend, it's never a perfectly straight line. This last winter the *WINTER* arctic ice was the highest on record; so this summer's low might not be that low.

e) We still don't know the results for this summer. The US Navy's prediction could still come true. Of course, they said it "could" happen by this year. If it instead happens a couple years from now, their prediction would still be true.

Zero. How many billions have the oil industry made while peddling lines like "So how many Billions has Al Gore made with these predictions" to the hopelessly stupid and gullible?

Look, as mentioned above, 2007 was the first time in recorded history that the Northwest Passage opened to ships without the need of icebreakers. Since then it's happened on a regular basis. Adventure-style cruise ships have been travelling it, and starting next year, luxury cruise ships.

Between the passage opening up, the receding permafrost causing problems new species showing up in the north that weren't there before and a long list of other problems, warming is something that people in Canada are HAVING TO DEAL WITH. For us it's not a lib'rul conspiracy, Al Gore lie or whatever my-mother-only-lets-me-eat-with-a-spoon-stupid fantasy you cling to. It's something we've been forced to deal with.

The Jade Helm Conspiracy Theorists Have a Point
Just not the one they think.

... The public hysteria over Jade Helm 15, embarrassing though it may be, is nevertheless imposing a measure of accountability on a war games project that nobody else is going to evaluate. Whom does this exercise serve: the American public? Special Forces soldiers training for some current or future mission? Defense contractors peddling new weapons for wars that are increasingly being fought by remote control? SOCOM surely wasn’t going to volunteer this information before the Jade Helmers began complaining, and while it still might not, there is at the very least more public attention now being paid to this organization, and that’s a good thing.

Finally, while this particular conspiracy theory is very stupid, most of the people scoffing at its adherents would likely admit that, under the Obama administration, federal security forces have engaged in plenty of unrighteous activity. You shouldn’t trust the Pentagon to respect Americans’ civil liberties. The federal government does keep secrets from its citizens, and if it finds the antics of the lunatic fringe tiresome, well, it should try being more transparent and direct in its governance, and perhaps refrain from the sorts of real-life rights violations that lend credence to the more outlandish theories.

“Whatever Jade Helm 15 actually is …” was how Chuck Norris began one sentence in a column on Jade Helm at WND.com. But we sort of know what Jade Helm 15 actually is. It’s a drawn-out, expensive military training simulation ostensibly designed to train soldiers to fight in wars that this country should not be fighting, supervised by a marginally accountable and lavishly funded Defense Department office that can afford to dick around in the desert for two months while countless other federal programs and agencies struggle to make do with their meager allocations. Isn’t that worrisome enough?

Gotta go with the libbies on this one......

One only has to look at the daily weather oddities of the last several years to realize that "something" is causing the strange weather (flooding, droughts, heavy snows, no snows, numerous powerful tornados, destructive cyclones and hurricanes) that is tormenting this planet. Temperature changes could be responsible for some of the devastating earthquakes, but I have no data on that to back it up; just sayin'.

My money is on climate change and/or global warming; whichever it's preferred to be called. As such, the earth is approaching another of it's cycles that it has endured for millennia. Whether or not man's actions are speeding up the cycle could be debatable; however, he certainly hasn't taken any steps towards slowing down the process or preventing it entirely.

A former congressman mistakenly blamed Islam when he couldn't buy booze at Walmart

Former Rep. Allen West (R-Florida) apparently made an embarrassing error after he couldn't buy alcohol from a particular Walmart cashier in Dallas, Texas.

In a since-updated blog post on his site, the conservative firebrand suggested on Monday that he wasn't allow to purchase booze from the employee because the cashier was Muslim and the store had adopted "Sharia law."

... However, it turns out that the cashier was just too young to sell alcohol under store policy....
:D

Comments:
I can't buy alcohol in Walmart at all in my state of PA. The Quakers had Sharia law here long before the Muslims even thought about it.
Hell you can't buy alcohol on Sundays in most southern states. Sharia Law by Christians!

Meanwhile, back in reality....

Bloomberg News estimates that Al Gore has a TOTAL net worth of 200 million. which is about normal for former White House residents in either party. And it didn't come from his environmental stances:
Since his failed run for the White House, Gore has leveraged his connections to make investments in technology and media that paid off. Earlier this year, he exercised options on 59,000 shares of the Apple stock he received for serving on the company's board since 2003. Those shares, Bloomberg reports, are part of the 101,358 Apple options and restricted stock shares Gore had acquired, coming to a gross value of more than $45.6 million. When Current TV, the network Gore helped found, was sold to Al-Jazeera in January, the former vice president made an estimated $100 million.

A couple years ago North Carolina banned scientific predictions of sea-level rise. There were similar bans in Florida and Texas.

Last year, to improve the chances of passing a bill approving the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, House Republicans passed a bill forbidding scientists from advising the EPA on their own research.

Wyoming is leading the pack this year. Many of its streams are contaminated by E. coli bacteria caused by cattle grazing on public lands near the streams. But the ranching community in Wyoming wields considerable political power, so the solution is to ban reporting of the problem. Under a statute signed into law by the Wyoming governor this spring, you have committed a crime and could face up to one year in prison if you discover an environmental disaster in Wyoming, even one that poses an imminent threat to public health, if you collect any data - even a photograph - and report it to anyone.

 Heh; this must be one of those examples of someone not being able to think or reason things out for themselves and only be able to follow / swallow what their "leader" or mentor tells them they should think. And I have no doubt at all that this blatant example of not being able to form a cogent original thought will not only persist, but intensify with the passage of time. You bet'cha.

They've screwed up the title.

It should have read "Right-Winger (no plural) Claim Texas Flooding Caused Not by Climate Change but Witchcraft and Sodomy".

The one call-in caller VIDEO is the likeness of that moron we had here a few years ago from the BRN Forum that claimed con-trails are caused by the US government poisoning it's people from the air. The author of that piece you linked is a rabid liberal.
