Satanists caught in Ten Commandments ruling fallout

A legal decision in Oklahoma to bar a Ten Commandments monument from its statehouse has a group of Satanists seeking a new home for a huge horned-goat statue of Satan.



In fact, the Satanic Temple is now looking for a friend of the devil in Arkansas, and it plans to reveal the 8 1/2 foot tall statue in Detroit later this month.

In late June, the Oklahoma Supreme Court said that its state constitution prevented governments from taking any act to benefit a religion, and the Ten Commandments monument at the Capitol had obvious religious overtones....

But now, the project is near completion and the statue, reportedly cost more than $100,000, will have a public debut in Detroit before the Temple finds a suitable location at a government-related site.

“It was always our intention to take this wherever it was relevant, wherever it was necessary, and wherever that dialogue needed to take place,” Greaves told the Associated Press.

And that destination could be Arkansas. In April 2015, Governor Asa Hutchinson signed a bill allowing a privately funded Ten Commandments monument in Little Rock....

Last month, the Satanic Temple claimed victory after a court ordered that a monument to the Ten Commandments be removed from the Oklahoma Capitol grounds. Although the Satanic Temple was not a plaintiff in the lawsuit, they say their plan to place a statue of Baphomet, a goat-headed deity of occult legend, beside the monument, on freedom-of-religion grounds, may have forced the court’s hand....

And in 2013, the Satanic Temple achieved notoriety for its “pink mass,” enacted at the grave site of the mother of Fred Phelps, founder of the notorious Westboro Baptist Church. The ritual, involving same-sex couples kissing, was described on the Satanic Temple website as having turned Mr. Phelps’s mother “gay in the afterlife.” ...

“The first conception was in response to George W. Bush’s creation of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives,” said Mr. Jarry, who was raised by irreligious Jews. “I thought, ‘There should be some kind of counter.’ ” He hit on the idea of starting a faith-based organization that met all the Bush administration’s criteria for receiving funds, but was repugnant to them. “Imagine if a Satanic organization applied for funds,” he remembered thinking. “It would sink the whole program.”

... Satanic Temple plans include the ultimate in strait-laced, law-abiding activism: lawsuits. It is looking into using the Religious Freedom Restoration Act to oppose abortion waiting periods, claiming that it violates Satanic doctors’ belief in the sanctity of good science.

And they are looking for plaintiffs, willing to identify as Satanists, who will file suit against public schools’ use of in-school isolation and deprivation of bathroom access. Such punishments “are physical or psychological abuse,” Mr. Mesner said, “which violates the Satanic Temple principle of sovereignty of body and mind.” ...

Yeah, people really got addicted to them, didn't they? Why they couldn't sit at a table long enough to eat a meal without whipping out a rolled newspaper and start reading it right then and there. Then there's the kids at the beach . . . you'd think they were there to swim, hang out with friends and ogle the opposite sex! All they did was sit around in small groups reading the newspaper! And walking into fountains, light poles, automobiles, while their nose was buried in a newspaper! Yep, them newspaper addictions were a real bitch! It's a good thing electronics like smartphones came along; now they can just sit around and take pictures of themselves, and send text messages to anyone who is interested in knowing that they are going to the bathroom!

In Palmyra, former home of Joseph Smith and the foundation of Mormonism, we could stand where supposedly God said, "Joseph, the former authors of the Bible didn't get it all right. You need to write another book." While there, being a Sunday and all that, I volunteered to write yet another version, but heard no voice from God. Maybe I should have had another fine Finger Lakes beer. In addition to being the home of the Mormon, Palmyra also has an intersection with a church on all four corners, not to mention the others along the main street. Churchy place - but great ride.

Maybe you should have went to a confessional instead. You could have confessed how you bragged in this forum about Mrs. O Really's sexual fineness in the bedroom. Did you ever tell your step-kiddies how 'ol step-pops bragged about their mother's sexual prowess and the fine name you called her in this forum? Perhaps you should seek the voice of God to direct you how to go about this. I'm sure she and the kiddies would be thrilled to hear about it. Personally I think your bravado just sunk another notch or two. If you don't have any respect for your wife, you ain't shit worth flushing.
