Well I don't know if it's a serious question or not, but IMNVHO there is no current cause more important than getting Republicans out of power. Not much we can do about the gerrymandering, but getting McCrory out and maybe Burr out is within the range of possibility. Get Cooper elected and we'll all be in awe.Vrede too wrote:With all the wins this summer, Sanders running for POTUS and even Republicans talking economic justice it's getting harder to feel like a radical.
Anyone have suggestions on causes to take up?

No disagreement here, but that's hardly a radical plan.

Radical may be fun, but it's not always the most helpful. But if you want radical, get collective bargaining by public employees legal in NC. Save some teachers.Vrede too wrote:No disagreement here, but that's hardly a radical plan.

Yep, the Snake. Too bad. I was a Raiders' fan back in the day when they
actually had some good teams. For the last few decades it's been hard
to keep up the faith.

I love the Packers! I may not always root for them every game, depending on who they're playing, but I love the history, the culture, the legends - everything about them. I've stood in Lambeau in January and walked on the tundra. Going through the Hall of Fame will either raise hair on your neck or you're not a football fan.Wneglia wrote:Yep, Mrs. Doc is a shareholder.Vrede too wrote:I like the only socialist team, too.![]()

OK, let's throw them out of the league entirely and put up a statue down in the Basin for the legend of pre-Snyder teams. We'll change the song to "To Hell with the Redskins..." We can just be fans of that other "Washington" team. "Hail to the Seahawks, hail victory...Beast Mode and 12th man...where the Hell's DC?

I've got an idea - get rid of Snyder by selling the team to L'Oreal. Then they could be called the "Redkens" and have Lea T, as the face of Redken wear a feather. All is well. Snyder is gone, the name (sorta) stays the same, but is no longer offensive, and the team is represented by a major transgender model. Hail to the Redkens!Vrede too wrote:![]()

Brady suspension overturned... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nf ... /71504142/
I'm not a particular fan of New England or Brady, but I'm even less of a fan of Goodell, et. al. Without regard as to whether Brady did in fact have anything to do with deflating balls (and I'm guessing he did), Goodell set out from the first to railroad him into kangaroo court. Bad NFL reaction when the softer balls were first reported; clumsy "investigation"; no independent review; hear an "appeal" of his own decision - yeah, right. I can hear it now, "upon further review, my decision of last month is overturned..."

Re: NFL Football
Yeah, maybe, but writing it off with that isn't much fun. I could start with a couple of different possibilities and still come up with the conclusion that Goodell is a power-hungry jerk who is too much wrapped up in himself to be even marginally competent. Let's say Brady told the equipment guy, "deflate the balls." He'd be guilty of a pretty minor offense, that could have been caught and fixed by any official handling the ball (or reported by any player) during the game in which it occurred. If nobody noticed, it's hard to make the argument that the ball discrepancy really made much if any difference. So, assuming Brady was guilty, it is still incumbent on the NFL to prove it. They didn't. Their "evidence" was pretty much that "he had to have known, and he didn't cooperate with the witch-hunt, ummm "investigation" and he trashed his mobile. How is that different from cops saying "if you don't have anything to hide, you'll let us search your house and car" and then when you refuse, consider you guilty without further evidence.Vrede too wrote:I'm not following it closely. My impression is that everyone involved sucks.
But bottom line, if Brady was guilty and the ball deflating affected the game, then the win should have been taken away. And wouldn't that have been a hot mess. If Brady was guilty and the ball deflating didn't materially affect the game, then a fine of some sort would be appropriate. Ultimately, the "crime" even if committed, and even if proven to be committed by Brady, wasn't that big of a deal. Pretty much in the category of greasing the baseball or corking the bat. Cheating, yes, but in the overall scheme of things, pretty petty.
Meanwhile, players have received less than a 4-game suspension for intentional cheap shots that cost another guy a season.
