2016 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Back when I was in school, we had to do a project about US government or something. They were teaching us how to use computers or something so the teachers told us to go to Whitehouse.GOV, not Whitehouse. COM, because turns out that one was a raunchy porno site.

Trump, Trump, Trump...yada, yada, yada...
He's entertaining - otherwise he wouldn't have been successful playing himself on "Apprentice." But let's see - who wants him to be President? At this point, it's about 25% of Republicans, who are, unfortunately, already on the edge of idiocy. So if a quarter of a population of village idiots have Trump as first choice, what does that say about his chances of ever being President? Let's look at some other problems facing the Republicans: 70-something percent of voters in key states like OH and PA favor funding for Planned Parenthood. Who opposes that? That would be pretty much all the Republicans. Nationally, 80-something percent of the population favors legal abortion for incest and rape. Who doesn't? That would be most of the Republican candidates. Over half of those polled (and 90% of Hispanics) favored some version of a Dream Act. Who opposed? Trump and most all the Republican candidates. If Jeb! had a personality and wasn't named Bush he'd be a great Republican candidate. He's actually running from a more moderate position than he governed when he was Gov! of Florida.

Personally, the crazier the Republicans get, the happier I get. I'd like to see them slide into history with the Whigs, Know Nothings, and be as insignificant as the American Republican Party, who also didn't like immigrants.

Oh, I had no intention of implying they were created by fear of Obama. My implication was that the election of Obama- a mixed race nigra- pushed the already racist, dimwitted right over the edge into full military powered derangement. They now feel emboldened, even entitled, to wear their sheets and robes proudly, in public.

True, as evidenced by the white civilians with their AK rifles parading around Ferguson
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

Since JTA wrote his post, I recalled something about whitehouse.com., which is a dot-com name I hadn't heard in years. A bit of researching, and I found this interesting piece in Wikipedia.

That wikipedia got creepy toward the end there. If unsolved mysteries was still around I bet they'd have a segment on Whitehouse.com.

Without regard to whether it's a good idea, how do Trump supporters think he'll be able to "not allow" Ford to build plants in Mexico? Aren't these the some of the same people who call Obama a "tyrant" "above the Constitution," yada, for making everybody get health insurance?

"The real estate developer and former reality TV star boasted that “President Trump” won’t let Ford move jobs to Mexico and will convince the automaker's Chief Executive Officer Mark Fields to bring jobs back to the United States.

“I would say, the deal is not going to be approved, I won’t allow it. I want that plant in the United States, preferably here,” he said, as the crowd rose to its feet, chanting “U.S.A.,” punctuated by a woman shouting “Detroit.” “So then I only have one question: Do they move the plant to the United States the same day or a day later?” Trump asked."

The depths of RW hypocrisy are about equal to the depths of RW ignorance. Add in their persistent preference for talking points over actual facts, and it is no surprise that folks dim and uninformed enough to support Dump also swallow everything he harks up for them.

There would be constitutional and NAFTA limits, but the left has been calling for an end to tax breaks for moving assets out of the country. I don't know if that kind of thing would be enough to sway Ford.

I think the only thing that would work is to find a way to make it more expensive to move off-shore than to stay in Michigan, or wherever. Even if it's Trump pushing the idea, I don't think it's a bad one. Exactly how to do that, however, I don't know and unfortunately neither does Trump. You could impose a steep tariff on any cars "imported" by a US company, but they'd just move the "official" company to Switzerland or somewhere. I don't know, but I gotta say it would be nice to be able to do something to keep the cars and parts, bring back the textiles, and make a "help line" be somebody who is sitting in the US, or at least in Canada.
