So, true rumor or not (the withdrawal suggests true):

Government agency suggests Dem, but DHS is more con than many agencies.
And, Dems like GOP chaos in general, but particular Repubs would benefit more.
Whatever the DHS IP role most of the outing came from cons, beginning early this year.

The only people benefiting from booting McCarthy would be the "Freedom Crackass" um Caucas, group. Dems would be better of with him, as compared to a worser loon, as would the remaining three real Republicans as well as the less looney of the right-wingers. But the filthy-40 can't be satisfied, can't be placated. No matter what happens, they'll fight it.

If the Freedom Crackers could win, they didn't need to smear McCarthy.
If the Freedom Crackers can't win, then someone with McCarthy's stances like Paul Ryan might still win.
Maybe there's someway the Freedom Crackers can win now thanks to the less loony being terrified.
The Dems would be better off with a less loony loon if there's any hope of getting anything done.
The Dems would be better off with a worser loon when making their case in the 2016 elections.

I don't know. So, I'm making some popcorn and rooting for maximum GOP turmoil, like with the GOP NC Leg. this year, just because that provides guaranteed immediate entertainment and I don't expect anything good to come out of GOP governance given how loony they all are.

If the Freedom Crackers hang together (oooh, what a nice thought!) they have the votes to block any Speaker nominee. But they don't have the votes to elect one of their own.

Boner does have an opportunity, though, since the Freedom Crackers already have named him Devil Bone, to get something done. He could actually collaborate with moderate Dems and the remaining moderate Republicans and get something passed. Before, he wasn't allowed to speak the name of Dems, much less try to reach a working relationship. Now, he's got nothing to lose and much to gain.
