The LEO thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Other reports say that it was friendly, enthusiastic "charge" at the cop by the dog.

According to the video, the cop was still outside the house. The sister who called 911 should have put the dog up. The dog attacks, the cop blows it away, the bullet goes through the dog, into the house striking the little girl. An unfortunate accident that you liberal cop haters call negligence. Wasn't that easy?

Vrede: Other reports say that it was friendly, enthusiastic "charge" at the cop by the dog.
Sure it was. Blame the cop for negligence.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not a cop-hater. I have long supported providing police departments with the best equipment and training available, and assure sufficient budget and staffing to do an excellent job. I also support holding them to a high performance level and coming down hard on those who take advantage of their authority or who hide malfeasance of others. And on those who shoot dogs and little kids. Negligence.

Does anyone anywhere besides homerfobe love cops that shoot 4 year olds because friendly dogs terrify them?

Fucking 4 year olds, more likely.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

Why we have cops in schools

I wonder what would have happened to the cop had he confronted this asshole?

Probably depends on the cop. But the Chicago Vocational Career Academy probably isn't representative of typical high schools, and I'm surprised they didn't have enhanced security. I'm also not surprised that a tiny substitute teacher wouldn't make much of an effort to confront the bully.

Your post said "why we have cops in schools" but nothing really supported having cops. Better security, sure. Cops, maybe, but it looks like the Daily Mail, Inquisitor, et.al. might like us to think US high schools are all chaos.

Those who support cops in schools apparently don't necessarily support providing them adequate and specific training, since only one state (Tennessee) does that. You can be reasonably sure that the superstars of the police academy probably aren't the ones assigned to be a school resource officer.

FACT SHEET: President Obama Announces New Actions to Promote Rehabilitation and Reintegration for the Formerly- Incarcerated

Cool, I signed a petition for:
Banning the Box in Federal Employment. The President has called on Congress to follow a growing number of states, cities, and private companies that have decided to “ban the box” on job applications. We are encouraged that Congress is considering bipartisan legislation that would “ban the box” for federal hiring and hiring by federal contractors. In the meantime, the President is directing the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to take action where it can by modifying its rules to delay inquiries into criminal history until later in the hiring process. While most agencies already have taken this step, this action will better ensure that applicants from all segments of society, including those with prior criminal histories, receive a fair opportunity to compete for Federal employment.
The other measures look good upon cursory glance.

Shocking news from Memphis - cop not indicted for shooting unarmed person in traffic stop. :o
http://news.yahoo.com/white-memphis-off ... 14315.html

So yeah, if you only look at the part where the soon-to-be victim kicked the cop's car door and attacked the cop with his handcuffs, it sounds pretty reasonable that the cop would need to take some action. Shooting him, however, might be considered by some to be excessive, but not to the Memphis grand jury. But that's not the whole picture. The victim had been a passenger in a car stopped ostensibly for a headlight violation. Have any of you who are white guys ever been in a car stopped for an equipment violation - or even speeding or stop light - and the passenger has to get out and sit in the back of the cop's car?

The last British detainee at Guantanamo has been released with an "er, never mind", after 14 years of imprisonment without charges.

That leaves just leaves 112 detainees at the facility. Gee, it might start to get lonely there.

Heard about this because of the local connection including the husband's father being a pastor in nearby Brevard, NC:

Pastor's wife on a ventilator after shooting in Northwestside home

Wife of former Upstate youth pastor dies after home invasion

Does any of it seem fishy?

How many random home invasions happen at 8:30 a.m.?
Is it just coincidence that the pastor happened to be at a gym where there are plenty of alibi witnesses?
How many random home invasions end with a shooting?
How many such shootings are to the head?
A new church that "was just getting going" is a big life stressor.
Pregnancy is a major risk factor for domestic abuse, including murder.
"Two weeks ago, the couple took a romantic getaway to Chicago to make sure they were practicing what they preached ..." - ???

Could just be my black suspicion but if not, you heard it here first.

For anybody who's ever seen "Dateline" or similar programs, it's a no-brainer. In fact, I've seen almost identical stories on Dateline fairly recently. Happy family. Husband comes home, finds dead wife (or almost dead). Everybody shocked. Facts start not to add up. Maybe not so happy family. Maybe other issues not known publicly. Husband gets caught.

My imaginative GUESS (based on years of Dateline et.al.):
The husband was having an affair with somebody.
The affairee got insistent upon wanting to be together - maybe even threatened to disclose to the wife.
The prospect of new baby complicated things further.
He couldn't just divorce the wife - he'd lose his job and be defrocked or whatever.
He made a show of great happiness.
Got somebody to break in and kill her. Told them when he'd be out of the house and when she'd be there alone.
Came home to find her and called 911.

It would be interesting to hear the 911 call. Cops have heard enough of those to get a good idea as to whether it's real.

You can't count on those reporting events to always use the right terminology, but "home invasions" aren't that common. Although the legal definition (if any) varies by state, in general you're talking about a forceful entry of an occupied residence with intent to do harm. It is different from burglary and robbery, although those might be among the charges. It would be more than a "break-in gone bad." And if that was it, it wouldn't have been random, so who would want to kill the minister's wife?
