The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I doubt that homerfobe has been to Swainsboro, GA like Boatrocker has. Thus, he has no standing to dispute Boatrocker's impressions of it, and he still ran away from the entirety of the post.

Well, we aren't all sterling examples of clarity and christian love and keen intellectual debate prowess that you imagine yourself to be.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.

I can't speak for Boatrocker, but I have lots of compassion for the religious. :P

Agreed. Pagans - Romans, Greeks and Egyptians - gave us the very foundations of society, culture, science, philosophy, literature and drama.

To most Christians the Bible is like a software license. Nobody actually reads it, let alone attempts to understand it. They just assume that they know what it means, and they scroll down to the bottom and click "I Agree."

Nor am I a sterling example of clarity and Christian love and keen intellectual debate prowess that you imagine me to be. However, not being a Christian or homosexual doesn't give me a right or excuse to spew filthy epitaphs about them like yourself and homerfobe do. Just sayin'.

You're attempting to create a false equivalence.

The gays merely ask for equal rights. They in no way try to take away the rights of Christians or anyone else. They don't attempt to force their lifestyle on anyone else. (Beyond the **same** anti-discrimination laws also used to protect women, visible minorities, people from other religions, and everyone else.) If the gays down the street can marry, it has no effect on you.

Kim Davis on the other hand was using her government position to force her sect of her religion on everyone else, and discriminate against those who disagreed. The teacher in Georgia was using her public school teaching position to force her religion on kids, and to discriminate against kids who didn't share it. In a particularly vile manner.

There is no equivalence. Yes, "fucking xtians" may be a tad out of line. But often that "filthy epitaph" is far less filthy than the actions - done in the name of Christianity - that provoke it. In the whole debate about Kim Davis you've been completely forgiving of her actions, while condemning the mere words they provoke.

Too bad that Paul Harvey thing is no longer here. That is one of
the funniest pieces of shit I've ever listened to. If I were the
devil....a classic of premature wingnutism. Dude, you're not
the devil, you're some tiresome hack pretty much out of touch
with reality who is no longer with us. It was funny in '65, and fifty
years later, it's just hilarious. Good day.

The Vatican's Enormously Successful Pedophile Exchange Program Continues

U.S. and European Catholic priests disciplined for sex abuse have been transferred to South America, ministering in impoverished, unsuspecting parishes. A Belgian priest has been allowed to start an orphanage for street kids.

Question, Bungalow Bill: Why was that video so upsetting to you?
Of course that's a piece of shit to atheist liberals who can't or won't see that what Paul Harvey said was 'prophetic' truth. Much of what he said came to pass (Biblically speaking here), and you're right, he's not the devil, but he had a pretty good foresight of what this nation is turning into. I'm not a religious person neither do I put much thought into prophetic sayings, but I believe Paul Harvey hit the nail on the head 50 years ago. I removed the You Tube post because at the end of the video was suggested viewing for some stupid videos of Russian soft porn. I'm no prude, but I don't post trash. Anyone wanting to see what we're talking about can search "If I were The Devil" by Paul Harvey on You Tube. Good day.

Money talks. Bullshit walks. I hope the news media is successful in their getting their asses run out of town.

Out of all the players in that article your ire is reserved for "the news media"? That's weird, and kind of disgusting.

It's more amusing than upsetting. I've heard it a number of times before and
each time I find it to be rather silly. Do things change over a period of 50 years?
Of course. Did Harvey's prophecy of doom and gloom come true? Nope. We're
still rolling along just fine, thank you. There will always be some problems in
the world and in this country, but they don't have anything to do with the devil.
This reminds me of all the goofy predictions that America will follow in the
footsteps of the Roman Empire. The only good things about Harvey's piece is
that it is now fifty years old and we can see how wrong it was. For that alone,
I thank him. I didn't notice the Russian soft porn thing. I really didn't. I just
hope that it had nothing to do with pictures of Putin's man boobs.

I parsed his post that way at first too. But I think he means "I hope the news media is successful in their getting (the pedo priests) run out of town."

Ah, my bad, sorry Seth Milner.

Looks like it's a good thing I did not suggest he is a pedo priest. ;)

Looks as though my investigative journalism prowess failed me; thanks for clarifying what I meant to say, but isn't that exactly what I said here: "I hope the news media is successful in their getting their asses run out of town"; "their" being the priests?

Can't figure how either of you thought I was vilifying the news media. :-0?>

Since "the news media" was the only subject mentioned in your entire post not counting "asses", your "their" was at least a vague if not an incorrect possessive pronoun.
One could have reasonably read it to mean, "I hope the (nosy, Catholic bashing) news media is successful in their getting their (own) asses run out of town."
Hence the confusion that rstrong sorted out.

Fwiw, "The Vatican's Enormously Successful Pedophile Exchange Program" makes it clear that the strategy needs to be more aggressive than "run out of town." That just transfers the danger to some new town.

Fail again. I intended to say that I hope, by the news media exposing to the parishioners who/what the priest's background is, the priests would get run out of town.
