Wingnutties out of control!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Sporadic heckling, which was the free speech right of myself and others, is not banning. I do oppose disruption to the point of preventing speech entirely. That said, part of the issue was that our school paid him to speak. Bastards have a right to speak, but they don't have a right to my student fees and tax dollars. I had more citizen rights there than a white supremacist from LA.

I heckled David Duke when he came to our campus.

I'm 100% for free speech, but I also don't mind strong reactions to speech at the expense of the oppressed or marginalized. We've looked away for too long.
What do you mean?
I'm fine with people getting offended by nonphysical assaults on vulnerable populations and saying so loudly as long as they don't limit the offender's rights.

I don't oppose disruption to the point of prevention, but with some limitations. I see it as a continuum, starting with, say, my house. If for some reason homofobe was at my house spouting off his crap, I'd have no problem doing an Eddie Murphy act, "this is my house - get the fuck out!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2AIqYVZ7gc (actually homofobe would probably like the early Eddie's gay-ridiculing act).
I would have no problem with a crowd of my neighbors chasing him out of the neighborhood. Downtown, in a public place, however, I'd still be yelling at him, but wouldn't try to run him off. And in his house or on his own "Waynes' World" channel from his basement, I'd say nothing. Some people, however, shouldn't be given any message other than "not here."

To wrap things up - some speakers, like the crazy preacher types or David Duke aren't necessarily contributing to any kind of discourse so fuck those guys they're just trying to piss people off. Heckle away. While others may legitimately be trying to have some type of dialogue in a civil manner, but still get heckled by certain overly sensitive groups that lack any depth to their arguments so they instead resort to heckling because their ideas would most likely not hold up against criticisms.

End of the day I just want some pizza.

I once met a person that claimed they didn't like pizza. Knowing that no true American would deny a slice of pizza, I promptly slapped them across the face for being an French spy.

"Don't eat" and "don't like" are entirely different things. I could happily have pizza most every day, which is the main reason I don't eat it - or very rarely anyway. I do follow a NY/NJ rule, though. I eat pizza when I'm there but nowhere else. No floggings for me.

This is now my grocery list.

Wait... what if we combine all of these ingredients into a pizza?

mine does.

rich, never worked a day in his life asshole bil spews right wing lies and conspiracies at every family gathering but I'm not allowed to comment in the slightest way without the whole bunch of them turning against me for "trying to start something"

I show up, exchange greetings, eat, play with the little kids, (ignore the conversation about the devastating tax Obama has put on real estate sales and the insane regulations he has imposed on our banks) and go home.

Have there been other elections where candidates campaigned on unconstitutional issues. I know we all tend to believe that the present is somehow unique to us, but this really does appear to be uncharted waters when presidential candidates brag and boast about violating religious freedoms, closing places of worship, and singling out millions of citizens to increased surveillance and scrutiny by government and neighbors.

There seems to be some sort of patriotic pride in all this hate,

mine family was liberal until Dad died and Mom got Alzheimer's

my sisters both married into homes that have fox playing all day, every day. I asked my PhD sister a few years back why she couldn't see the lies and distortions of fox and she blew it off as something all news shows do.

Given the lies and violations of international law, one could argue that the 1968 & 1972 (and maybe 1964) campaigns involved the unconstitutional issue of Vietnam. However, I can't recall as much campaigning for unconstitutional domestic policy, though I wasn't alive or old enough for most of the Red Scare.
