The LEO thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Town Administrator Matthew Wojcik said he had not yet seen the lawsuit, and was still conducting an internal investigation.
"Still conducting an internal investigation" is code for "trying desperately to cover this up, somehow."

Could be, but the next sentence is:
"I'm a little disappointed, because I think there are other solutions," he said.
Some cop stupidity, child intimidation and abuse of rights just can't be covered up.

Nor should it be. But the first reaction of almost any municipality is to act to limit liability, not to do what is right. This invariably means covering up a pile of dog shit, rather than admitting the dog shit on the carpet, cleaning it up and putting the dog out.

Agreed, but some have lawyers like O Really or pols that recognize loser cases and tell the government to settle. Reading between the lines it sounds like Town Administrator Matthew Wojcik may be one of them. It's unusual to express any doubt towards the cops. Then again, it's been over a year. I wonder what's been going on in the meantime.

(Cary, North Carolina) Dog Owner Who Stabbed Husky 11 Times With Samurai Sword is Jailed 100 Days

Comment:
Get years for marijuana possession, 3 months for killing a dog. Bravo American justice system. You have no reason to wonder why the rest of the world thinks you're a joke.
It's getting harder and harder to take any comfort from South Carolina being next door.

Yeah, if I were King, I'd cut the guy's nuts off and feed them to him. But it doesn't say what he was actually charged with or pled to. Most available would be a Class H felony or a Class 1 misdemeanor. Max on the Class 1 is 120 days. Max on the Class H is 2 years. But in addition to the active time, he's got 5 years probation, the first two wearing an alcohol monitor. I'll bet they'll get him again on probation violation (I hope).

I wondered about that, too. What is more responsible - the law, the prosecution, the judge or all 3? More details, but still no mention of the exact charge:

Cary man gets 100 days in jail for stabbing Siberian husky

I might be wrong, but I don't think one can be sentenced to a probation term that's longer than the maximum prison sentence.

Correct. So maybe they up-charged him. That is a good thing, but I'd still have sentenced him for longer, and to be incarcerated in a cage at the animal shelter.

Unfair to the animal shelter, tied to a tree like the husky.

You still share a state line with Tennessee. At least you don't have AL or MS next door. Or Texass.

Kid waves fake gun around - doesn't get shot by cops!
The article doesn't say, but I'm guessing he was a white kid.

Police: Teen took fake gun to school so cops would kill him
Associated Press

MARLTON, N.J. (AP) — A 14-year-old boy crouched in the schoolyard outside a New Jersey elementary school with a fake gun hoping that police would take the threat seriously and shoot him to death, authorities said.

The Marlton boy had a steel replica handgun outside the J. Harold Van Zant Elementary School in Evesham Township on Monday, forcing it to go into lockdown, police said.

Two parents saw the teen near the basketball courts. One informed the school and the other told her husband, who is a state trooper.

Two off-duty state troopers tackled him, and he was taken to a mental health facility for treatment.

Police said Tuesday that the teen told them that he hoped the threat would prompt officers to kill him. Investigators don't think the teen meant to harm any students, teachers or residents.

The fake weapon, they said, "could only be determined to be a replica firearm during a physical examination after the incident."

The teen is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and related offenses.

His name was not released because he is a juvenile.

"Today's incident continues to expose the need for armed officers in all of our elementary and middle schools," Mayor Randy Brown said in a statement sent to the Burlington County Times.

Currently, the district has three special law enforcement officers, school officials said.

Brown said he has held meetings with school officials on funding officers since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre.

"Those discussions fell on deaf ears until recently," he said.

Did This White Cop Rape 13 Black Women?
It’s a travesty that Daniel Holtzclaw, who could be let off by an all-white jury after allegedly rampaging through Oklahoma City assaulting poor black women, isn’t headline news.

Daniel Holtzclaw should be a household name. He should be on the front page of every newspaper in the country. His criminal trial should be featured in the A-blocks of national news broadcasts.

We should be able recognize him on sight. We should be able to number and name the horrendous crimes he allegedly committed. Should he ever walk the streets again, he should enjoy not a single moment of anonymity.

Holtzclaw, a 28-year-old former Oklahoma City police officer, is an alleged sexual predator who prosecutors say used his badge to rape at least 13 women over a seven-month period. The alleged victims of his increasingly brazen pattern of attacks, prosecutors say, included an underage girl and a grandmother. Ranging in age from 17 to 57, all but one are black and all live in the same poverty-stricken, predominantly African-American neighborhood in the northeast section of the city.

They were picked because they were black and poor. They were picked because the perpetrator thought nobody would give a damn. It’s been two days since the jury began its deliberations, and there is a growing unease about the potential for a not-guilty verdict.

On Wednesday morning, eight men and four women filed into an Oklahoma courtroom and began their third day of deliberations. As of this writing, there has been no verdict. If convicted, Holtzclaw could face life in prison for 36 felony charges of rape, forcible oral sodomy, burglary, and sexual battery. It is worth noting that while the city population is nearly 40 percent minority, the jury panel is all white....

Knife-Wielding Man Lunges at Two Police Officers
You won’t believe what happened next: They didn’t shoot him!

Over the past year and a half, we’ve heard many stories about police officers who shoot people, then justify their actions by explaining that they felt their lives were in danger. In Chicago, Laquan McDonald was supposed to have lunged at Jason Van Dyke while holding a knife before Van Dyke shot him in order to neutralize the threat....
Bravo. Other differences: Laquan McDonald's knife was folded and its 3 inch blade was presumably shorter than the Boston perp's "large kitchen knife", and McDonald never "lunged". The video proves that the Chicago cops lied about that for 13 months.
Oklahoma ex-police officer accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen women has been found guilty

After four days of deliberations, an Oklahoma jury reached a verdict in the case of a former police officer accused of raping and sexually assaulting 13 women while on duty.

Former Oklahoma City policeman Daniel Holtzclaw was found guilty on 18 of 36 counts, including four counts of rape in the first degree.

Oklahoma's News9 channel is reporting that the sentences add up to 263 years in prison.

Sentencing is set for January. Holtzclaw could face life in prison.

The jury's verdict was delivered on Holtzclaw's 29th birthday. Holtzclaw was visibly distraught, sobbing uncontrollably and swaying from side to side as Judge Timothy Henderson read out the jury's verdict....

In the gallery of the courthouse, some of Holtzclaw's victims gathered to hug, pray, and even sing "Happy Birthday" to Holtzclaw....

Interesting discussion here about how cops got so over-armed. Theory is they followed the over-arming of civilians, with AK's AR's and body armor. Thanks to NRA refusing their owned members of Congress from limiting the killing tools readily available to nice and naughty alike, cops are going around armed to the teeth and willing to fire at most anything that moves.

Yes. And what did they design it for? To kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. Just the thing we need in the hands of a bunch of rednecks.

That too, but I meant a very profitable arms race in which everyone loses besides the merchants of death. A tally of how much money we're spending destroying ISIS' (Middle East rednecks) US-made arms would be illuminating.
